No, Umno hasn’t lost control of the extremists

YOURSAY ‘In fact, they don't want to control the actions of Isma, Perkasa.’

Ku Li: Hell will break loose if leaders lose control

Casey919: Hell breaks loose not because leaders lose control. If justice is vested in the hands of the powerful few, why call it justice? Let us rather call it injustice.

In a true democracy, justice and liberty can only prevail if the government is made subservient to the rule of law. But that is not to be. In Umno's Malaysia, the doctrine of separation of power or trias politica has long been bastardised and usurped when Dr Mahathir Mohamad was in power.

It sounds like Tunku Abdul Rahman is the only happy PM in Malaysia. In the latest book on happiness, the author wrote one of the causes of being happy is you must not control or dominate people and things around you.

The need to maintain control is a hurdle to happiness. How very true. After 22 years of controlling and dictating his wishes, he continues to exercise his dictatorship until death, which will be when he is 100 years old.

He has been unhappy with his crooked face, his crooked mind and his crooked bridge for the past 30 to 40 years and will still have another 12 years of extreme unhappiness to follow. Long live Dr M in misery.

David Dass: Ku Li is right. The government must take control. Someone must be firmly in charge. Today the extremists seem to be in control. They can say what they like and do what they like. Their actions provoke reaction. And then it will be reaction upon reaction.

Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud is a remarkable girl. I would be so proud of her if she was my daughter. Independent minded, confident and articulate. We should all be proud of her.

She is in the opposition. So what? The opposition have a role to play in a democracy. The DAP has always been criticised as being an all-Chinese party concerned only with Chinese interests. So let them bring in more Malays.

A fight to stay in power cannot be a zero-sum game. Even PAS must acknowledge the reality and be willing to compromise in a religiously and culturally diverse country. The extremists must be reined in.

Anonymous_4031: Yes, Ku Li is right: our society is a society of laws; and all are bound by the same laws. And no one is above the law. All come under the same law. The rule of law must always prevail.

The law enforcers cannot close their eyes and ears when racists run riot. When rabble-rousers take the law into their own hands, the law enforcers cannot stand idly by. If they cannot act, they should gracefully bow out.

Ku Li has made a strong statement about the quality of leaders and about leadership. Leaders who dare not or will not act against racists, religious bigots, rogues, rabble-rousers are not strong leaders. They are indeed weak leaders.

If they pretend not to know who the extremists are they must be blind, deaf and dumb. Yes, as Ku Li warned, hell will break loose if things get out of control. Leaders must put their foot down, even at the cost of being unpopular and even if they lose their positions.

Yes, it is true that Tunku Abdul Rahman was a man of peace and harmony. He once claimed that he was the happiest man in the world. He mixed with all races. He did not discriminate against anyone. He made friends with all sorts of people: the rich and the poor, princes and paupers.

He was happiest when he mingled with ordinary people. He was a man for all seasons. Can we find such a leader today?

Abasir: Ku Li, you choose to cavort with the regime of rascals... a regime that actually thinks very little of you either as a leader or as the voice of its conscience.

You could have done the unpopular thing in Umno by stepping out and teaming with the forces that seek a more equitable moderate and civilised Malaysia. You could have garnered the energies of millions who wish for nothing more than the preservation of the values this country was founded on. But no.

You have chosen to run with hares and hunt with the hounds for reasons you keep to yourself. In doing so, you are as guilty as your vile Umno brethren in tearing this country apart.

Yours is an act of deliberate omission, consciously looking the other way even as the barbarians tear down the gates... and in that sense at least, yours is the greater 'crime'.

You should be ashamed of yourself. Please stop preaching about what others should do and ask yourself the difficult question: what can I do as an 'Umno elder' to stop the rot.

Ib: Ku Li, you are one of the most senior people in Umno. Why point fingers at others when you yourself are not willing to be unpopular? Please walk your own talk if you are so wise...

Wg321: Ku Li must have been sleeping. Hell has already broken loose. Umno-BN did not lose control. They don't want to control the extreme actions of Isma, Perkasa and many unknown NGOs that suddenly expressed extremist views from nowhere.

Even the Chinese hater Ridhuan Tee Abdullah who hates the Chinese race for giving birth to him is no exception. Why? It is because Umno cannot accept the result of GE13 even though they have formed a minority government.

DAP assemblyperson RSN Rayer used the word “celaka” while the Dewan Undangan was in session. If Umno lawmakers are not happy why don’t they complain to the House speaker immediately? Instead the Umno ‘legalised’ thugs stormed the august Dewan later.

Swipenter: Either the leaders are elegantly silent or they are a conniving lot for the kind of racial and religious baiting and stoking manufactured throughout the country these days.

One political party has hegemony over the country but ironically they are also facing the toughest test to their survival. The perception by the rakyat is that they are the very ones conniving if not condoning and even responsible for the current situation we are facing.

Their president seems unwilling or unable and even conniving at these racial and religious provocations. Threats of violence and another May 13 are getting more common nowadays but those who are threatened are not easily cowed as those in the past.

They have had enough of being treated as ‘pendatang’ citizens for the last four decades because they have a different creed, culture and religious beliefs.

Anonymous_1396163122: No matter how provoked you are, one must not take the law into one's own hands. The situation will descend to lawlessness. They are avenues to address the provocation.

Ku Li, no one has the divine right to destroy the peace this nation has wrought through many century of hard work and harmonious living.

Umno remains the most provocative of political parties in Malaysia. Until today, no one has threaten to burn down the Umno headquarters.
