When royalty is invoked to propagate hatred

YOURSAY ‘The palace should really haul these ‘criminals’ up for grilling.’

'We'll chop off heads of those who insult Islam'

David Dass: "If they continue to ridicule the religion and the sultan, we will chop off their heads." So says Perkasa's information chief Ruslan Kassim.

No sane person would want to insult Islam. That has never been the way in Malaysia. Unfortunately, one is never certain today of what would be construed as an insult to Islam.

Words which are used in everyday discourse are banned from use by non-Muslims. The Alkitab that has been used by Christians for more than a century is seized by Jais (Selangor Department of Islamic Affairs).

A corpse is seized during a funeral and a bride is detained during her wedding ostensibly because they were Muslims - a fact unknown to the bride and to their respective relatives. This kind of rhetoric is alarming.

It makes co-existence between people of different faiths extremely difficult. It puts people on edge. It gives the impression that normal interaction and discourse between Muslims and non-Muslims is dangerous. It allows and legitimatises scrutiny and interference with the way non-Muslims worship. All this is wrong. This is not beautiful Malaysia.

Is this Ketuanan Melayu? Is this why some Umno leaders wanted a dominant Malay race? Did these leaders consider the unintended consequences of policies and principles that are inherently wrong?

Is this adherence to the rule of law? Is this what our democracy is about - defined by some to be government by the majority for the majority? And that the majority in a democracy are entitled to more rights than the minority?

What meaning do we give the provisions of the constitution that guarantee equality of all citizens, that guarantee freedom of worship, that outlaw discrimination on grounds of race, religion and gender?

Does the threat of public disorder by one group of people become a reason to restrict the rights of another group even though those rights are guaranteed by the constitution?

No one in his right mind would insult another religion. But what do you do when the rules keep constantly changing and what was right one day becomes wrong the next day?

Negarawan: This type of death threat does not come from people who are God-fearing and peace-loving, but from people who are evil and with selfish agenda.

Associating the sultan with the death threat is really an insult to the sultan himself. Perkasa has shown itself to be incendiary and inflammatory with its baseless accusations against non-Muslims, and is a threat to national peace and stability.

The question is why is Umno funding groups like Perkasa, and what is Umno's agenda for doing so?

Proarte: This is the result of the Federal Court judgment on The Herald appeal which ignored the constitution and the rights of minorities and non-Muslims. It has emboldened the fascists that they can freely threaten decapitation and the spilling of blood.

But such is the breakdown of law and order in Malaysia now that the AG (attorney-general) will charge any individual for sedition if Perkasa is called "celaka" for threatening murder.

Turvy: This is the ranting of a lunatic group. They insult not only their religion but the human race itself that it could produce such illiterate vermin. They would find no space in civilised society and would have found none in this country.

But their actions are allowed without official criticism because a dying breed of spent 'politicians' think their rantings and mad-dog barking will scare the population that has rejected them and help keep them in power. They think wrong.

Kyrie Eleison: Perkasa have really bring shame to the Malay race and Islam. They have painted the Malays as not able to stand up for themselves, easily influenced, always dependent on handouts and all this in environment of imaginary threats that don't exist.

The quicker the Malays get rid of these Umno-sponsored NGOs, the better for them and their own future.

NuckinFuts: Isn't it seditious to use the good sultan's name and position to justify Perkasa's barbaric and evil intentions?

The palace should really haul these ‘criminals’ up for grilling because if it doesn't then the palace will be seen as condoning Perkasa's actions. We do not want our sultan to be tarnished with this kind of barbarism. Daulat Tuanku!

Gerard Lourdesamy: Do the 200 persons at the gathering reflect the views of 60 percent of the population who are Muslims?

Is chopping the heads of other Muslims or non-Muslims part of Islamic teaching and justice? If yes, then the rest of the world is justified in using drones and smart bombs to kill Muslim terrorists and extremists.

The stupidity of these Perkasa thugs and gangsters is astounding to the point  that one wonders if Allah SWT forgot to give them a brain. Mais (Selangor Islamic Council) should not stoop this low to use Perkasa as their proxy against the elected state government.

Casey: "Anger and intolerance are the enemies of correct understanding. Intolerance is itself a form of violence and an obstacle to the growth of a true democratic spirit; (because) intolerance betrays want of faith in one's cause," said Mahatma Gandhi.

To those bigots who exhibit great intolerance or fear or just hatred or ignorance, please drive this message into your skull: the good - Malays, Chinese, Indian and others - outnumber you; and the good will always prevail over the evil. That's the golden rule of the universe.

J Ng: All these threats have nothing to do with religion. They are part of a political strategy to promote Malays support for Umno. Islam is and will never be under threat.

NGOs are used to create an imaginary belief that Islam is under threat by unscrupulous politicians to stay in power. The real threat to Islam are in fact caused by the corrupt practices of theses politicians.

NGOs threats and provocations are getting more daring purely because of the behind-the-scene endorsement. These threats are done with the intention to promote counter retaliations from the opposition and the non-Muslims.

Decapitation uttered in the name of religion
