A Malaysiakini journalist as well as a photographer were barred from covering Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's press conference to announce the cabinet reshuffle this afternoon.

The journalist was stopped at the counter at the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya by a security personnel, who asked, " You dari media mana? " (Which media are you from).

When the journalist replied, " Malaysiakini ", the security personnel said, " Malaysiakini tak boleh !" ( Malaysiakini is not allowed).

When quizzed on the reason for this later, one of the prime minister’s aides claimed that there was "not enough space" for the journalist and photographer.

Prior to that, KiniTV journalists were allowed in but were later told to leave.

A security personnel had approached them in the conference room and told them to leave after asking them to identify their news organisation.

KiniTV tried to record the incident but the security personnel forced them to delete the footage.

"I'm just doing my job, I got orders saying that you can't be here," he said.

However, just as the KiniTV journalists were about to get into an elevator, Najib's aide intervened and let them back in.

Journalists from The Malaysian Insider news portal were also barred from attending the press conference.
