Kidex traffic impact report to be made public

Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim (right) said that Kidex Sdn Bhd will submit the report to MHA in two weeks’ time, after which it will be displayed for public view.
Khalid said this in a statement after attending a briefing by the MHA on the controversial project which has been heavily-opposed by local residents.
Residents have questioned why the project has been approved, despite the absence of a TIA. They also argue that the multi-billion Kidex will not solve traffic woes in the area.
The residents have also received support from Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives who urge Khalid not to okay a project which will go against the Pakatan’s election promise to abolish tolled highways.
Briefing for reps soon
In response, Khalid today said the Petaling Jaya mayor has been instructed to hold a special briefing on the matter for state councilors, assemblypersons and parliamentarians after the TIA is received.
Meanwhile, Khalid said that MHA in the briefing today said that Kidex is one of 10 new highways required to manage traffic in the state leading up to 2020.
“Based on MHA’s analysis, the Middle Ring Road II requires 10 new highways. The Northern Corridor needs five new highways while the Southern Corridor needs four new highways by 2020.
“The analysis takes into account existing and planned public transport,” he said.
He also assured that any privatization will be done “in the people’s interest” as it involves taxpayers’ money.
