War of the songkets - perhaps RM60 a stitch
YOURSAY ‘Don't dress in borrowed robes and reap the glories of real warriors.’
Umno leader: Zam, we used cheap songket
Anonymous Cat: Songket is a fabric that belongs to the brocade family of textiles of Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. It is hand-woven in silk or cotton, and intricately patterned with gold or silver threads.
The metallic threads stand out against the background cloth to create a shimmering effect. In the weaving process the metallic threads are inserted in between the silk or cotton weft (latitudinal) threads.
But it is news to me that Pakistan makes songket.
CucuMalaysia: Recently somebody went to Paris to promote Malaysia's batik. On the other hand, Umno imports songket material for songkok and still claims it's cheap. No wonder the rakyat are suffering.
Not Smart: So what if it is RM60 or RM600. Dressing is one form to show how economically one had progressed and prospered.
There is no denial that nowadays, the manner one dresses, the car one drives, the house one owns and the outlets one drinks and dines and are totally different from the time of the then-true warriors.
Don't dress in borrowed robes and reap the glories of the real warriors. Be as what you actually love to be or otherwise dress like warriors always. What a bunch of clowns and hypocrites.
Anonymous #55961902: Here’s how to find out all that you need to know on how wealthy these Umno Baru members are. Just attend one of their functions and you can see the cars they drive.
These so-called YBs would drive a Proton and keep their expensive cars at home when they attend private functions just to camouflage their wealth. We have heard and seen this too many times.
The cloth was sponsored. Wonder who is or are the sponsor(s)? Only a few wore expensive ones? The more mud they throw at each other, the more dirt will be revealed.
Fairnsquare: Everyone is talking about songket when an Umno member clearly states that “when he (Zainuddin Maidin or Zam) was a minister, he is the one who lived off public money before.”
Can we take it that one becomes a minister not to serve the nation and the rakyat, but to be one who “who lived off public money”.
KnockKnock: We have about 140 districts in Malaysia, an average of about eight to 12 districts per state. Why not appoint an Umno sultan in each district? They do look like kings with full songket dress.
Trublumalaysian: If it were RM60 per stitch, then I would believe it.
'Diploma of student with HIV withheld'
Hafidz Baharom: There is a lot of hate out there already for people with HIV/AIDS. It is not the job of the government or even the Education Ministry to add on to this stigma. It is their job to overcome it.
MICK: Police are known to have collected millions worth of drugs and other psychotropic medicines. What do they do with it?
Do they destroy them under supervision of a superior officer or do they sell or use these items for other purposes?
All drugs collected by the police should be destroyed by putting them in a furnace or incinerator so that it does not appear anywhere else.
Boonpou: The other day blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK) was ripping into Malaysians, especially the non-Malays, of no longer loving the country but actually hating it. That's right, hating it.
With absurd discrimination against peoples with HIV/AIDS and many other manufactured categories deemed as deviants by our governmental institutions, can you blame why so many have given up the notion of loving this country?
These go beyond the age-old racial and religious discrimination. It makes me sick.
Proarte: Boonpou, RPK himself was responsible for planting a great deal of hatred among Malaysians for BN by exposing the legion of injustices, corruption and atrocities of the government.
However, RPK has admitted that his views have never been consistent and change with his 'life cycles'.
Opinion is divided whether RPK is a hack for hire whose writings serve the interest of the highest bidder or whether he is an unstable attention-seeking individual.
RPK loves Malaysia so dearly that he can only feel safe, happy and financially secure by being abroad. Is this a contradiction? No, that is RPK in a nutshell.
FairGame: What do we expect from the Malaysian way of 'administration and management'?
If the top and big fish are doing it blatantly without worries of repercussions, small wonder that the lower rungs will also 'cari makan' their own way.
