PM's Office: ISIL remark taken out of context

Aries46: Taken out of context? Is PM Najib Razak that naive?

The very fact that of all the plethora of morally acceptable bravery and victories out there, he picked the ISIL militants’ terror onslaught against the legitimate army of Iraq as an example to feed his Umno minions in Cheras tells the bigger story.

It is only natural that extremists and terror organisation that are a curse to mankind be condemned for their atrocities and not praised for their bravery by those that cherish democracy and freedom. What more from a leader of a free nation at that.

But the very fact that Najib zeroed in on the ISIL rebels to emphasis his point was probably because it was the most suitable example to drive his point across depending on the scope of his message and agenda for the night.

Casey: For all the shouts of velour, it's cowardice in disguise. Fear stifles thinking and actions. It creates indecisiveness and diffidence, or the erosion of confidence; and the downward spiral begins.

The end is nigh of the sitting duck PM who remains fearful and haunted by his own shadow.

Now, to paraphrase American author, Annie Dillard, "Let us see how long you can keep cranking the flywheel that turns the gears that spin the belt in the engine of belief that keeps you and your desk in Putrajaya."

Ex-PJ: Najib, you are supposed to be the PM and a public figure, behave like one. What you say in public is taken seriously by the press and people of Malaysia.

What would your 'friend' US President Barack Obama say if he realised that you have used a terrorist organisation as a model for bravery?

Negarawan: With due respect, Najib should be careful about his choice of examples in his public speeches.

This is not the first time where he has used inappropriate examples and ended up with very negative perceptions. I don't have to mention the specific examples here as they are well known already.

Whether Najib's statements were taken out of context could be challenged because it was not a perception or understanding of just few people but many. Perhaps it was his subconscious person speaking, revealing his true colours.

Freemsia: Advocate for moderation? This is from a PM whose party (Umno) actually admitted financing Perkasa.

And a PM who dare not make a stand against extremists such as Perkasa, Isma, Ridhuan Tee Abdullah simply because of fear of losing support from the warlords within his party?

Action will always speak louder than words.

Anonymous #20513663: Freemsia, I don't believe it is Umno which admitted to financing Perkasa but Putrajaya itself . It means that our tax money is use to fund Perkasa. We Malaysians are financing Perkasa.

Oh Ya?: Is Najib qualified to advocate moderation when he is deaf and dumb to the violence, extremism and bigotry committed by his people right in front of his own eyes?

Anonymous5: Indeed, Najib’s actions do not match his statements. Rejecting extremism in all forms? He kept quiet and oblivious to the racial incitements and threats to violence that have been going on in the country.

Is there a thick, sound-proof glass shielding Seri Perdana in Putrajaya?

Telestai!: In whatever context, asking ordinary law abiding people to emulate a terrorist group is wrong and indefensible.

If for example a man were to rape a girl from a poor family, would donating money to the victim's family make the rapist a model philanthropist? Very ironic, don't you think, Mr Prime Minister?

Speak for all: In the first place, Najib should not even mention the name of this terrorist organisation as reference for bravery. What this group is doing is cowardly killing innocent people and I am sure it is not part of Islam.

Siang Malam: What, another figure of speech? If you had used ISIL as an example to be praised in a public speech, implicitly you support this extremist organisation. That's the perception, Mr Prime Minister, and you just cannot run away from that.

Hafidz Baharom: What other context could there be? The PM said that Umno should emulate ISIL at a huge party gathering. Even if spoken in passing, he said it.

And if ISIL - as the PM's Office argued - is classified as a terrorist group, then the PM and president of Umno has literally told his party to emulate terrorists.

I don't see any spin other than that coming out of the PM’s Office.

Anonymous_3faa: He had said what he had to say. No clarification is sufficient to nullify his intention to deliver that statement in the first place.

It clearly shows his stand on the dangerous path this nation is taking due to his refusal to rein in the religious and racial bigots in Umno by his inelegant silence and total absence of leadership.

Anonymous #20513663: Doublespeak exposed. The 'time-tested' communication strategy of different messages to different audiences only works when the Internet does not exist or is successfully censored.
