Journalists and photographers have been camping outside the two palaces in Selangor amid speculation that Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim will resign.
Apart from Istana Alam Shah in Klang and Istana Mestika in Shah Alam, the media have also been staking out the Selangor state secretariat building since morning.
However, the MB's office has denied that Khalid is resigning or that he will have an audience with the sultan over this matter today.
According to his press secretary, Arfa'eza Aziz, these are rumours spread by irresponsible quarters.
"This is a lie. He is not meeting the sultan (to tender his resignation)," she told Malaysiakini .
Since midnight, a statement was spread regarding Khalid’s resignation. The message, sent via email and text messages, read:
"Latest from media sources. Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim is expected to have an audience with the Sultan of Selangor Sharafuddin Idris Shah at 9am to tender his resignation as MB. A special media conference will be held after that."
Meanwhile, news agency Bernama has tweeted today that the organisation’s name had been used to spread rumours regarding Khalid’s supposed resignation.
“Bernama has discovered that there are parties who are using its name to spread a false news regarding the resignation of the MB,” it tweeted on its official handle.
