YOURSAY ‘Clearly it was a thinly-veiled threat aimed squarely at non-Malays.’
KJ flays DAP for 'twisting' race riot remark
Casey: Given the circumstances, the innuendo behind DPM Muhyiddin Yassin’s words is as clear as an elephant in the room.
Only the servile and the sycophant in the room would pretend that the elephant is not there and choose to ignore the threat by Muhyiddin.
Sports and Youth Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, where were you in 1969? And tell me, for people like you who came to this world seven years thereafter, what would you like to be reminded of which you'll consider to be constructive?
The huge contributions and sacrifices made by the other races that has made this country a better place or the little blemish in the founding history of this country which they called 513?
The country's population was then about 10 million verses 30 million today. The demographic and socio-economic composition, then and now, were totally incomparable. Hence, there's no compelling reason for the nation to be oft 'reminded' of something which has no value.
Besides, even the world has changed; and at breakneck speed. You're now living in a globalised world with free flow of information. And that, you'll do well to be reminded. Similarly, you've to be reminded that the world is watching. That apartheid-like policy brings upon the the country the worst kind of shame and international disrepute.
No where else in the free world can you find a government that, perversely or otherwise, threaten its people with riot; hold the nation to ransom; practice prejudice against its citizen; promote racial and religious bigotries; or for that matter, condone corruption.
Ferdtan: "Is it wrong for a national leader to remind the people to safeguard unity?” Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said in defending Muhyiddin's statement that another May 13 race riot is "not impossible."
Khairy, if you have the guts, please tell your two top bosses - the PM and DPM - to stop using innocent parties in their power struggle. We know that one faction in Putrajaya had decided to up the ante in the political war to dislodge the head of the government.
The racial and religious issues keep on coming up. The next general election is another four long years away so it is not about outdoing the opposition to save Umno. No one believes that.
The only one big reason such dirty politics are being played non-stop - the coveted position of the prime minister. Come on, get it over with.
Hplooi: "As deputy prime minister, every night before sleep I think about how to manage the country. People send me text messages - what is going to happen to the Malays? Why is Islam insulted and other similar matters. Why things like this happen, it worries us. We need to return to the right path," Muhyiddin is quoted as saying during the breaking of fast at a mosque in the Bukit Serampang, Pagoh.
The very fact that while the spectre of May13 was alluded ("This can cause that event [and I do not want to mention the date]"), this was followed by the standard allusion of 'mencabar Islam dan Melayu'.
Such statements which conflate one with the other become not merely a statement of (so-called) historical facts but an implied current fact. Such statements have been standard since 1969.
If this statement is not challenged, then it will become national fact as it was uttered by the DPM no less. And once it become "national fact". then state instituted pogrom will become the next step against those who 'mencabar...'.
So KJ, while you are partly right (on the need for unity), the key estate (to borrow the French) responsible for unity is not the citizens but the government.
In the case of Malaysia, it seems that the key estate working against (multiracial) unity is in fact the ruling party with its outsourced fifth columnist.
Apa Nama: Khairy, if that statement was a reminder by Muhyiddin as you, MCA chief Liow Tiong Lai and Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong were claiming, Muhyiddin could and should had said it in a different manner.
He should not use May 13 as the reference point. He should use some other words to describe and send the reminder more proper as he is a DPM.
So what is the difference between him and Perkasa or even Isma? Did he himself felt threatened that he has to use threat towards non-Malays?
Old Timer: Yes, Khairy, that's right: any threatening statement by Umno leaders is always twisted by the opposition. Is it that Umno leaders are incapable of uttering sensible statements other than those that threaten non-Malays and non-Muslims?
It seems these leaders and government officials are not for Malaysia, or the Malaysian rakyat but only for Malays. Remember DPM stated he is a Malay first, then Malaysian. This proves the point, doesn't it?
Abasir: KJ is at his usual disingenuous best. He knows full well that Muhyuddin deliberately set his warning in the following context.
The DPM said: "People send me text messages - what is going to happen to the Malays? Why is Islam insulted and other similar matters."
Clearly it was a thinly-veiled threat aimed squarely at non-Malays. Not at Perkasa, Not at Isma, or at the scumbags who labelled the minorities as ‘pendatang’ and ‘intruders’ and definitely not at the one who threatened to chop off heads.
If anyone has manipulated anything. it is KJ and the ‘Urban Poor and Homeless' Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
Cantabrigian: Khairy, sorry dude, I thought you are way smarter than this. Alas, I was wrong.
