Sultan is beyond criticism, his advisers are not

YOURSAY ‘Khalid is within his rights to be heard before justice is pronounced.’

Khalid: Don't invite Allah's wrath for fear of man

Aries46: Under our constitution, the sultans are empowered as the guardian of Islam in the believe that they are enlightened and true believers destined to dispense justice to their subjects.

Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad on the other hand is the voice of the 'rakyat' as an elected member of parliament sworn to protect the nation and uphold its constitution.

The sultan is within his rights to be concerned if there has been indiscretion by an elected official but there must be certain amount of discretion exercised in handling the matter.

Khalid is within his rights to be heard before justice is pronounced on him. Matters of such nature must be done with decorum with due regard for those concerned and to protect the honour of the royal institution.

Malaccan: My admiration for this MP grows much in acknowledgment that he is one of the few who would speak up for the ordinary, voiceless and powerless; unflinching even in the face of menacing annoyance of the powerful.

It is a far more glorious God he worships and exemplifies than the one restricted to those who would impose their petty insecurities on others and tread on their rights to scriptures and freedom to worship.

Petty men always need to feel important and will only feel so when others are made to bow to them. They worship a god of externals and have no worth or substance internally.

The MP is elected by the rakyat to speak for them without fear or favour. Perhaps this is no longer remembered or honoured in this land of privileges and abuses.

The MP is widely supported when he spoke against the abuses and arrogance of Selangor Islamic Council (Mais) and the shameful actions of Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais).

Perhaps the MP will have the opportunity to share with HRH (his royal highess) the nobility of his purpose and the justness of his cause.

Keturunan Malaysia: Khalid Samad, my sincere and humble salutation. You are made of greater stuff than I gave you credit for before this incident.

Fair Play: Khalid Samad, your statement, 'don't invite the wrath of Allah for fear of man', is the best answer ever against those who invoke race, religion and royalty to silence their critics, including the thousand of silent right-thinking Muslim Malaysians.

It is political leaders like you that the rakyat can only depend on to drive the nation forward as a cohesive and prosperous one.

Dingy: Khalid, fear only to God. Do what is right for the good of the rakyat. I fail to understand how asking the return of the Malay and Iban bibles as agreed by the attorney-general is an act that tarnished the sanctity of Islam.

The country would be in turmoil as seen in this country when states passed laws not conforming to the federal constitution. This problem was created by Umno Baru and Malaysia must solve its own problems. If not, let's change the government.

Odysseus: If the law is allowing people to run wild, amend the law and control these people. Otherwise, it’s the law that they will use against you.

Shah Alam MP shocked to be called 'insolent'

Casey: Malaysia, like its former colonial master, embraces constitutional monarchy. The rights, privileges and the largely ceremonial function of the royal institution is enshrined in the constitution and should be upheld.

Any attempt to usurp this constitutional equilibrium may result in inconsistency and subject the delicate balance in the relationship between the people and palace to perils with unintended consequences.

Truth be told, even if there's a gag against criticism of the royal institution, and that the sultan is beyond criticism, the advisors are not.

As the people's representatives, the four PAS MPs were doing what was expected of them, to voice up against bigotries and wrongdoings. In fact, these are the real defenders of the sanctity of Islam and the royal institution.

Even Prince Charles had this to say of monarchy, "Something as curious as the monarchy won't survive unless you take account of people's attitudes. After all, if people don't want it, they won't have it."

RR:   Politicians and top civil servants should not use the institution of the sultanate for vilifying those who are not in agreement with their views.

Sultans are above petty party politics. They appreciate constructive views expressed by the rakyat for the good and well-being of the nation.

Leaders with vested interests should avoid manipulating the institution of the sultanate.

Anak, Bangsa, Malaysia: Selangor Perkasa chief Abu Bakar Yahya, how dare you accuse the non-Malays of being anti-Islam?

As mentioned by Khalid, he was trying to protect the sultan because Mais’ action has made the non-Malays angry over the seizure of the Alkitab.

Secondly, there has been no proof that the Malay bibles were used to preach to the Muslim  Malays. I believe the sultan has got wrong advice on the issue pertaining to the bibles.

Imanust Nais Yalam: "History has shown that a throne can be moved from the palace to the museum if wrong advice was given."

Intelligent words from Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.
