Again, Sedition Act used against dissident
YOURSAY 'I don't agree that Khalid Samad has committed anything seditious.'
'Mais not alter ego of Selangor sultan'
Anonymous_1391570393: Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad was not in any way criticising the Selangor sultan.
He pointed out - and that is his responsibility as a people's representative - something that is not right with the way Selangor Islamic Council (Mais) runs its affairs.
Mais must obey the command of Allah. When it advises the sultan, it must make sure that the advice is Islamic. It is certainly not in line with Islam if someone comes and says that leaders are above the law.
Remember what the Prophet had said: "Even if my daughter Fatimah steals, she should receive similar punishment as any other thief should."
Donplaypuks: I agree fully. Criticising a government body is not equivalent to criticising the sultan.
This is the same situation with anyone commenting on the government - it cannot be equated with criticising Malays or Islam, otherwise the whole government will be exempt from any oversight and many abuses of power will go unpunished.
Drngsc: Indeed, none of us would think of criticising the sultan. Surely Mais and its enforcement body, Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais), can be criticised when they do wrong. They cannot be above the law.
I hope that the sultan can appreciate that. By criticising Mais/Jais when they do wrong, Khalid Samad is actually protecting the good name of his highness. If only the sultan could see that.
Pisasu 7 : Mais and Jais have no right to interfere with other religions, period. Non-Muslims are not bothered what they do otherwise, just don't insult our religions by gate-crashing weddings or snatching holy books.
Casey: History has shown us that in every emperor's court, there are three kinds of officers:
1) the righteous or those who speak the truth regardless of how harsh the truth;
2) the sycophants or hypocrites who resort to servility, deceit, hyperbole and mendacity to please the emperor; and
3) the fence-sitters who support both sides in a disagreement because they cannot make a decision or do not want to annoy or offend either side.
Fair Play: I fully agree with professor Abdul Aziz Bari. It appears that amending the said Act at the present time is highly sensitive as it is seen to touch on the sultan as head of Islam in Selangor.
The (expedient) solution lies in the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM) and other aggrieved parties taking Mais to a civil court, as they had infringed on the religious rights of the non-Muslims as enshrined in the federal constitution, the supreme law of the land.
Anonymous_1390562550: Where were all those now braying for Khalid Samad's blood when former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad went on a roadshow and made all kinds of degrading remarks against the sultans and the Agong, joined by his menteri besars?
They should just shut up and let the Selangor government and the sultan settle the matter.
IGP: PAS MP under sedition probe
Fairplayer: The Sedition Act has been greatly abused. It is out of place and out of date. It should be incinerated. I don't agree that Khalid Samad has committed anything seditious. A man who fears God is to be praised and honoured.
Justice demands that he be given audience with the sultan to thrash things out. To deprive him of the opportunity to meet the sultan shows tyranny, immaturity and injustice, and not democracy at all.
Remember all men and women are equal in God's sight. God has no favourites. His judgement is fair and just to all.
Haveagreatday: Inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar, please tell us what is new? Instead of doing proper policing work, you are tying up all your resources pursuing the agenda of your political masters.
Dzulkefly Ahmad: What about the IGP lying about slain teenager Aminulrasyid Amzah having a parang in his car (when the former was Selangor CPO)?
Why is this man not being charged? Is there immunity for top-ranking police officers to lie?
The Mask: This is, without any doubt, an abuse of power and authority by the IGP.
I don't see an iota of connection with the sultan in Khalid Samad's statement, unless it is sedition against Mais, in which case the Umno government is really going all out to silence all criticism against all Umno-related agencies.
No Fool: Malaysians are very sick of the selective prosecution by the corrupt BN government which is trying to play up racial and religious issues to retain power.
There is nothing productive in what the government is doing, just wasting time and resources. How are we to progress under such a useless government?
Fair Play: Right, IGP. Go through the motion and let's see how the attorney-general would act. The state enactments were enacted by the BN government. Any enactment (in parliament or state assembly) is subject to change or even a repeal.
Charging Khalid Samad for suggesting an amendment of the said Act as seditious is stretching the imagination to its limit.
KDP: Better to fear the Lord and undergo persecution, than to bow at the feet of Caesar.
