No consultation on new MB, so no okay from PAS
PAS is not immediately endorsing PKR's move to replace Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as menteri besar of Selangor due to the "lack of respect" shown by PKR.
This is because PKR did not consult with PAS before publicising its intention to install Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the menteri besar of the state, the Islamist party leaders are insisting.
The main underlying issue, the PAS leaders have insisted, is the lack of engagement from PKR, and not because of Wan Azizah's gender, which is an impression its fellow Pakatan component DAP holds of the dissenting voices to the move in PAS.
"It's not about who becomes the menteri besar. There were no discussions with PAS Selangor as a component member of the Pakatan Rakyat," a PAS source told Malaysiakini , citing the "lack of respect" given to his party by PKR.
However, that doesn't seem to be the impression PAS has been giving to the other Pakatan component party, DAP, which is under impression that PAS is opposing Wan Azizah just because she is a woman.
"That's the impression they are giving to us," a senior Selangor DAP leader told Malaysiakini .
While there is a group within PAS supporting Khalid to stay on as menteri besar, there are also groups that are split on the move, and those who oppose Khalid but want PAS to be given the post of menteri besar, since the party has assemblypersons in Selangor than PKR.
Opinions within the PAS leadership on the possible change of the Selangor government leadership appear to be divided according to positions they hold.
The state executive councillors appointed by Khalid are understandably backing him to stay on, while the PAS division leaders want to see Khalid removed as menteri besar.
And some insist PAS should get MB seat
However, among them there are also voices demanding that PAS be given the MB seat instead. This is despite an official statement from Pakatan yesterday asserting that PAS and DAPc "respect" the fact that the MB seat belongs to PKR.
The PAS assemblypersons are divided over the matter, half of them supporting Khalid and the other half not backing him.
However, this is not the first time the issue of PKR not consulting with its Pakatan partners coming to the fore.
The party's decision to replace Khalid by implementing the "Kajang move" in February, which eventually fell through, was also done without prior, explicit approval of its Pakatan components, which led to dissenting voices from PAS, with some even arguing that PAS had the right to hold the menteri besar’s seat should Khalid be removed.
Earlier today, Selangor PAS Youth backed Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad's statement that PAS does not agree with the move to replace Khalid.
It argued that the excuses to replace the MB were not justified enough, as the move “is to stabilise PKR alone”.
