Wanita MCA has lashed out at PKR’s decision to replace the Selangor menteri besar with party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, claiming that de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim is turning the MB’s post into his “private asset”.

 

Selangor Wanita MCA chief Ong Chong Swen said the ‘Kajang Move’ was an attempt by Anwar to gain power and personal benefits.

 

Ong ( right ), who is also the party's Wanita national vice-chairperson, said PKR’s move in Kajang to trigger a by-election was intended to further Anwar's political career.

 

“However, when the Court of Appeal convicted Anwar and sentenced him to five years’ jail for Sodomy II, he lost his eligibility to contest the Kajang state seat.

 

“So, in order to ensure that he can still control Selangor, Anwar then declared his wife ... will take over as the new MB,” Ong decried in a statement yesterday.

 

She also said the announcement to replace incumbent MB Abdul Khalid Ibrahim at a PKR supreme council meeting on Tuesday defies Pakatan’s claim that all component parties are equal.

 

“Although PKR has the least number of elected representatives in Selangor compared to DAP and PAS, yet it is PKR which has the final say in everything,” Ong said.

PKR has 14 seats, while DAP and PAS both have 15 seats each in the 56-seat state assembly.

 

Wan Azizah is Anwar’s puppet

 

Meanwhile, MCA Selangor state liaison committee deputy chairperson, Donald Lim doubted Wan Azizah's credentials to be the next Selangor MB.

 

“In terms of professionalism, competence and experience, Khalid appears more appropriate compared to Wan Azizah, as he helmed Guthrie Bhd before. Moreover, he is into his second term as MB in contrast with Wan Azizah.”

 

“Although’s Khalid performance as MB attracted plenty of criticisms, the public get to see his ability. Conversely, Wan Azizah lacks achievements, her persona is deeply overshadowed by the (personality) cult of her husband,” said Lim.

 

He described Wan Azizah as Anwar's puppet, who is open to his manipulation.

 

“If the Selangor Pakatan state assemblypersons can force the ouster of the incumbent MB for the so-called benefit of the rakyat, then Selangor residents will continue to languish, with water shortages, highest dengue rates and all other issues,” he exclaimed.
