Isma: Probe IGP for 'protecting racists'
Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) today urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar for his failure in taking action against non-Muslims who insult race and religion.
Isma president Abdullah Zaik Abd Rahman said it was as though Khalid, together with Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail, were practicing selective prosecution when non-Muslims were involved in such cases.
“When it involves non-Muslims, action is not taken. But when it involves Muslims, investigation is carried out immediately.
“What is preventing both the IGP and the attorney-general from this responsibility, until those who are guilty are protected?” Abdullah Zaik ( right ) asked said in a statement today.
Citing names such as the notorious sex bloggers Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee, whose case is still pending, he also said there has been no response to police reports made on “chauvinistic” party DAP and its leader Lim Kit Siang.
Apart from Isma, Umno Youth has also taken aim at Gani for the lack of action against such individuals.
Sinar Harian today quoted Umno Youth executive council member Sheikh Abdul Rahman as saying that Gani's apparent silence over such cases has raised question marks, particularly among the Malay Muslim community.
'Keep an eye on vernacular papers'
He, however, did not name the newspapers.
Yip courted controversy when he posted a profanity-laden post complaining about Muslim prayers broadcasted on loudspeaker in the morning.
