YOURSAY ‘And will Khalid reshuffle the exco and include some from BN?’
'I can lead Selangor without PKR and DAP'
Telestai!: It is foolhardy for MB Khalid Ibrahim to think that the legitimacy of his leadership comes from the executive council (akin to a dictatorship) and not the State Assembly (a democracy).
Being party-less, it is foregone conclusion that he does not enjoy the support of his Pakatan Rakyat colleagues and must resign. The Sultan of Selangor is a constitutional monarch and cannot lend him legitimacy.
The battle lines are drawn - the state assembly ought to conduct a vote of confidence as a matter of formality. If Khalid loses the vote, in my opinion, the sultan should haul up the state assembly representatives and ask them to nominate a leader.
Khalid is in no position to advise the sultan on the dissolution of the state assembly as he no longer enjoy the support of his fellow assemblypersons.
If this situation is allowed to persist, it will spell doom for Malaysia. BN will use this as an excuse to remain in power even if it loses heavily in the next GE.
Hafidz Baharom: There are many questions to address in this situation. Firstly, when will the state executive councillors resign?
Secondly, will Khalid reshuffle the exco, and include some from BN? Now that he has no party backing, he may have to give some to his supporters, which includes those in BN.
Thirdly, will Pakatan now move forward with a vote of no confidence? If so, Khalid will have to meet with the sultan again and chances are, HRH (His Royal Highness) will ask for a statewide election or three names from the Pakatan Aduns (state representatives) for consideration.
For myself, just keep business and investment growing. That is truly all that matters in Selangor. Everything else is just dirty politicking at this point, which will receive a reckoning in the next general election.
Malaccan: PAS is giving Khalid his hope and leverage to reap some benefit, even at the cost of its allies in Pakatan. Perhaps it hopes to discredit PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and DAP and seize dominance in Pakatan.
In this, PAS reprises the role of Umno when it betrayed PAS some decades ago. It may be in the nature of PAS to always be cheated or to cheat others. On the flip side, perhaps PAS felt that if they were not to support Khalid, it would throw the state in chaos.
The truth is, if PAS had the moral courage to do right from the outset, Khalid would not have dared to blatantly mislead HRH. PAS' honour is in tatters and they win a Pyrrhic victory.
Fortunately, this is something that DAP and PKR can learn now and not on the cusp of winning federal power. Had GE13 brought Pakatan to victory, the let down would have been greater.
But PAS have miscalculated and forgot that the voters are seeing the true PAS. It may yet taste bitterness when the voters speak through the ballot again. It wins some today, to lose all tomorrow.
Anon1: Partyless MB Khalid Ibrahim, you no longer have the mandate of the Selangor folks, let alone the support of the majority of Selangor state representatives.
The person who commands majority support in the Assembly must, by constitutional convention, be appointed by the ruler as the MB. That person is not you.
It looks like you will force a motion of no confidence which will be easily carried out in the Assembly. The only thing which can save you is a state constitutional crisis involving the ruler, if at all.
Cantabrigian: Only time will tell whether Khalid is doing this for himself or for Selangor. He refused to mix party politics with the administration of Selangor.
He relentlessly defy party instructions to protect state interest without fear or favour. He burned bridges with allies in order to be independent so that he could decide objectively what is best for the state. Only time will tell.
Spartacus: Khalid, if the state government is not a political administration, why do we need to have state election where the winning political party get to rule a state.
Do we still need a state election now or the state election just confine to public servants where only they can vote?
Anticonmen: With 28/56 +1 in the Assembly, they are planning a coup to take over the Selangor government. PAS is going to team up with Umno. Just wait and see.
Khalid has already done a deal with PAS and Umno to change the government. Now, everything falls into place why he acted so confident.
Unspin: Although I thought that the Kajang by-election was undemocratic and taking the voters for granted, I think it is best for Pakatan to force a re-election in Selangor.
If PKR can convince one or two PAS Aduns to support a no-confidence vote in the state assembly, the motion would most likely be carried.
Khalid would then be forced to stand as an independent candidate (or a candidate for Umno) but it should be immaterial because Pakatan should secure a simple majority for it to appoint a new MB.
Kawak: The saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" can be aptly applied to this shameless MB of Selangor.
He has given the impression of a sincere politician and administrator, now he shows his true character. Anyway most politicians in Malaysia cannot be trusted, according a survey done last year.
KSD: I am ashamed that I was vocal in my support for Khalid to be retained as MB post-GE 2013.
But then again, this is the same person I heard with my own ears many years ago at Dewan Sultan Sulaiman declaring that he was a party man and that he would do whatever the party wanted him to do.
