PKR, DAP face 'Khalid, palace, PAS, Umno' combo

YOURSAY ‘Khalid's action in sacking excos is utter contempt of Selangorians.’

Khalid sacks all DAP, PKR exco members

Anonymous_ABG: The sacking of PKR and DAP state executive councillors has come as a shocker. In interpreting Article 53(7) of the Selangor constitution, exco members hold office until sacked by the sultan.

Sacking is not at will and at the pleasure of the sultan. His Royal Highness must have very good reason/s to do so.

Article 53(7) does not provide for proxy sacking, therefore the sultan is answerable to the people of Selangor and is obliged to give reason/s for his action.

Anonymous#007: Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim cannot do this.

Sure, the law might give the sultan or Khalid the power to sack the six state cabinet members. But that is not what the law was designed for.

It is a provision for the MB to sack the exco members if they have not been or are not doing their job. And they have been doing their job well. This is an abuse of power and the law.

There is strong basis and a moral responsibility for Khalid to step down until the allegations against him have been cleared.

This is because anyone in a position of power that is implicated in corrupt acts is susceptible to being blackmailed into making decisions that do not benefit the rakyat and the country.

When corrupt persons blackmail one another, at the end of the day, they will only be looking out for themselves, and not the rakyat. That is why corruption is a major impediment to economic growth.

And also why there is a need for some to cling to power at all costs.

Fair Play: As a right-thinking Malaysian, I am in fact relieved to see this impasse had come to this, but certainly not this way created by a rogue state assemblyperson from PKR.

PKR and DAP might as well regroup and form a more credible opposition pact. There are many battles to fight, possibly a Selangor snap election, GE14, GE15 and beyond.

Let's punish PAS severely nationwide and consign them to the rural heartland for posterity, once and for all.

Patriot1: Khalid's main shortcoming is that he runs Selangor truly like a corporation. In government, there are social issues that do not exist in corporations.

His 'stingy style' leaves many PKR representatives unable to fulfil their promises to the rakyat. Khalid should free up a portion of the state's vast reserves to really develop the state as 'idle money is no different from no money'. Amenities and infrastructure still leave a lot to be desired.

I was a banker and as far bank settlements are concerned, we never know the real picture, unless shown to us. Why is everybody hurling accusations when nobody knows the details?

If Khalid has done wrong, by all means punish him for selling out Selangor. But what we have is a situation of "it can't be, unless..."

All his financia matters appear settled and he's invited any party, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), to check. I believe he's hanging on to prove a point.

Lamborghini: It is always in times of crisis that the true character of a person is fully known. This crisis has shown up Khalid for the despicable, shameful unprincipled, immoral, selfish tyrant he is actually is.

Shame on you. Political opportunists like you are destroying our beloved nation. God, have mercy on Malaysia and help us expose and rid ourselves of  these kind of gutter politicians.

Voiceless: I am very surprised that most comments in Malaysiakini are negative to Khalid. Few care the way PKR treated him.

Few care that he was pronounced guilty just based on suspicion. Few see that all this dirt was splashed on Khalid just because PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim wants the MB post.

As a member of PKR, Khalid should toe the line of the party. But when the party behaves like a big bully, smearing his reputation and integrity, then to toe the line will be to admit guilt. Hence he is right to fight to clear his name.

Anonymous_1407410978: Seriously, what do we expect Khalid to do? Play along with PKR when he is no longer a member, accept to be subject to a vote on executive decisions when he is still MB?

The exco members must be on another planet when they wrote that letter and expected Khalid to agree.

Maplesyrup: Khalid's action is in utter contempt of the Selangorians who voted to reject Umno at the last GE.

Essentially, Khalid is in cohort with Umno to steal Selangor. It’s amazing that the sultan can support such a person as this MB. I suppose it is a replay of Perak.

As they have trampled on the people's choice in Perak, it looks like it is going to happen in Selangor too.

LKT : The palace needs to be cognisant of the express wishes of the voters of Selangor, who voted in Pakatan Rakyat with a better than two-thirds majority. Khalid is now not a member of any of Pakatan party.

He is no longer a state representative from Pakatan and does not have a valid mandate from Pakatan to head a Pakatan state government.

The principle of parliamentary democracy is being set aside for the convenience of retaining Khalid as MB to fullfil the short-term objectives of shameless Umno. Khalid is now literally "a dead man walking" for the betrayal he has committed. Yet Umno, the palace and the top leadership of PAS choose to side with Khalid.

Selangor is not like Perak, voters will not give a second chance to those who betray or insult them.

As for PAS, its leadership's behaviour and handling of this matter of Khalid's case thus far speaks volumes of the trustworthiness and commitment of PAS to the Pakatan project.

ZhuGeLiang: When it comes to politics, nobody can beat Umno. That's why I feel that Umno will rule for another 100 years.

Dalvik: First we have a minority government managing Malaysia, now we have a minority exco managing Selangor. Come on, Khalid, this is a joke. You are nothing but an authoritarian.

WDA: PKR brought this upon them. Khalid may have his shortcomings but in general, the people of Selangor hardly complained about him. For them, he was an effective and no-nonsense MB who played his role as the state's CEO very well.

If this was not the case, they would not have given him a greater mandate in GE13. The only ones who complained were the leaders of PKR and DAP. When they couldn't get him to resign, they started to throw smut on him, ala BN, with serious allegations but no solid proof.

To cap it all, they hurriedly sacked him from PKR to accelerate the promotion of PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Not even in their wildest dreams did they imagine things to work out this way, where they are cornered and looking at the real prospect of losing another state, and this is no other state.

They underestimated the MB big time, and he's really having fun now. This episode only revealed that PKR and DAP leaders are not vehicles of change but mere politicians, and not very good ones at that.

CiViC: I have to repeat, this is Malaysian hypocrisy at its best. And along with it, stupidity for judging everything just based what we see on the surface.

The very same person who was praised and carried as one of the best MBs ever is now being condemned by people who know nothing more than what they read on Malaysiakini .

Pakatan won Selangor not because they are saints. They are just the lesser of two devils, so don't blindly support whatever the coalition does, for it may not be as simple as that.
