'MB shouldn't stay for even one minute longer'
YOURSAY ‘He should advise the ruler to summon an emergency sitting.’
MB accepts PAS' stand, to meet ruler on next step
Gerard Lourdesamy: Khalid should accept his fate and move on. As a responsible MB, he should advice the sultan to grant an audience to the Pakatan Rakyat leaders or their representatives to inform the sultan of their choice of MB and for them to demonstrate to the ruler that they have the support of not less than 29 members of the state assembly.
Then Khalid ought to tender his resignation. If the sultan still wants Khalid to remain, he should advise the ruler to summon an emergency sitting of the state assembly so that a motion of confidence can be tabled to test Khalid's majority in the state assembly.
Pakatan still has a two-thirds majority in the assembly even without Khalid. If the sultan is still not satisfied then Khalid should only as a last resort advice a dissolution of the state assembly for a snap election to be held.
What he should not do is try to form a minority government with Umno which will not survive for long in the state assembly and render the state government illegitimate.
Prudent: Khalid should not be allowed to meet the state ruler since under the case law on the Perak change of government as decided by the Federal Court, he has automatically vacated his post when he lost the majority support in the state assembly.
He can no longer say anything to the ruler as MB, let alone advise the ruler on state constitutional matters.
It is PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail who has demonstrated that she has majority support who should meet with the state ruler and formalise her appointment as the new MB.
Terjah: Legally speaking, Khalid cannot hold on to the MB post any more, not even one minute longer. It is clear now that he doesn’t have the so-called support of majority as claimed earlier.
He know that his days are numbered. The sultan, on the other hand, shouldn't waste his time to see Khalid now that he knows Khalid doesn't have the majority support.
The sultan should be above politics, and since the MB’s post can now be considered 'vacant', the sultan should immediately appoint Wan Azizah.
Apache: Khalid, it’s time to resign to protect your legacy. Now 43 state assemblypersons out of 56 are against you. If you dissolve the assembly, you will be known as the biggest traitor to Selangorians.
Be gracious and resign therefore allowing Tuanku to appoint another candidate to be MB from Pakatan.
Thinking Aloud: At best, Khalid is nothing more than a caretaker MB. When the sultan returns, have your resignation letter ready.
If your view is sought, do the dignified thing by advising the sultan to appoint the Pakatan chosen candidate as the MB. Then walk away with your head held high.
Further politicking by you will damage your reputation further. When things return to normal in Selangor, people may still remember that you did do your bit for the state. Take pleasure from that and live your life peacefully.
Ourvotesdecide: Now that Pakatan has come together with one voice to replace Khalid as MB, there should no longer be any obstruction or interference from any quarters.
Whatever is their position or power or status, they and all Malaysians should accept that the Khalid Ibrahim era had passed and let Wan Azizah take over as MB.
Whether she is proven incompetent or incapable, let her actions speak first. After all, Malaysia already had a few very capable women leaders such as Zeti Akhtar Aziz as governor of Bank Negara and many more as judges in our judiciary.
And whether or not the people of Selangor are satisfied with her performance as their MB, let them decide in the next general election.
Ferdtan: Maybe when all return to normal and with Pakatan commanding two-third majority in the assembly, the relevant clauses in the state constitution must be amended to correct the anomalies.
One: The assembly speaker is compelled to call for an emergency state assembly meeting if he/she receives a signed petition of two-third majority for it. That sole right should not be restricted to MB only.
Two: The MB cannot unilaterally dissolve the state assembly. He must convene an emergency meeting for approval; a simple majority will suffice before he goes to the palace for permission.
We have to cut down the unreasonable power of a menteri besar. He does not own the state - the people do, through their respective representatives.
Sakit Hati Ku: Khalid, there is only one decent thing left for you to do before pulling down the curtain - bow out gracefully like a man and make peace with your Allah.
My friend, it is not the end of the world, there is no need for you to demonstrate your dark side. You win some and you lose some, that's life.
Adam Ningau: From now on, we have to be more careful with PAS because they have shown their true colour in this crisis. No doubt there are a few good and open-minded PAS leaders but there are even more conservatives and opportunists among them.
They just wait and see which side the wind blows and then they made an 'informed' decision to back PKR's choice of MB candidate.
The impasse in Selangor state government is partly due to PAS indecision. Hence, PKR and DAP must now realise that they are sleeping with an enemy.
I won’t be surprised that the 'apolitical' sultan will advise Khalid to dissolve Selangor state assembly. Then we shall thank PAS for this.
