PAS: We didn't discuss Azmin as MB with sultan
PAS confirmed today that it did not mention PKR deputy president Azmin Ali’s name as a possible choice as menteri besar during a July 31 meeting it had with the Sultan of Selangor.
PAS confirmed today that it did not mention PKR deputy president Azmin Ali’s name as a possible choice as menteri besar during a July 31 meeting it had with the Sultan of Selangor.
Selangor state executive council (exco) member in charge of Islamic Affairs, Sallehen Mukhyi, said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah did not have any discussion on Azmin.
“His name was not mentioned,” Sallehen ( right ) told Malaysiakini when met in Shah Alam today.
Last Tuesday, PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat revealed that Hadi had met the sultan.
Following the meeting, PAS proposed that an alternative name be submitted to the Selangor palace, in light of any possibility that might occur between the palace and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Sallehen last Monday revealed that the palace had rejected Wan Azizah’s name and confirmed that the meeting was the reason why PAS had not been in support of Wan Azizah.
“As we have explained before, we do not agree for Wan Azizah as menteri besar, not because she is a woman, but because we were informed by the palace that it does not accept her (as menteri besar),” Sallehen had said then.
Nevertheless, PAS on Sunday
proposed
two names to replace Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim - Wan Azizah (

) as well as Azmin.
However, at a meeting held later by Pakatan Rakyat, it was agreed that Wan Azizah's be the only name to be suggested to the sultan.
Azmin has agreed to follow the party’s decision and in his statutory declaration expressed his support for Wan Azizah as menteri besar.
No decree by sultan
Meanwhile, Suhaizan clarified today that he did not mean that the palace had named Azmin or indicated that Azmin is favoured for the post of menteri besar.
"Any view saying so is not true... I hope this will clarify any confusion," Suhaizan said in a brief statement.
Hadi's office also clarified that it was the PAS president, who initiated the audience, and not the sultan, as claimed by Suhaizan.
"We would like to clarify that Dato Seri Tuan Guru (Hadi) sought an audience with His Royal Highness on the fourth day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
"There has was no decree on the Selangor menteri besar issue," Hadi's political secretary Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said in a statement.
