At an emergency meeting last night, Selangor DAP concluded that the worst-case scenario would be a snap election in the state as a result of the crisis surrounding the post of menteri besar.

According to a party source, the meeting was called after PAS yesterday made a different stand on the issue.

The source said that several scenarios were discussed, including the possibility of a smooth transition in power.

Contacted this morning, Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua ( right ) confirmed that the possibility of a snap polls was discussed.

"We briefed all DAP state representatives on the latest development and asked them to be prepared for all eventualities today at 4pm," he added in reference to the press conference scheduled to be called by Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Khalid will be meeting the sultan prior to that and is expected to push for the dissolution of the state assembly.

Pua, however, said the meeting did not discuss about the party's chances of winning if an election was called.

He said the state committee members and representatives had been asked to prepare for emergency meetings these two days, depending on the developments.

Alternate candidate?

The party will discuss an alternate candidate to replace PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, if she was rejected by the palace, a reliable party source said.

The party also discussed the possibility of the ruler preferring a PAS representative over Wan Azizah, the source said, but  the party was a bit reluctant to accept this.

"If the ruler decides the MB should be a PAS representative, we are basically against this," the source said, adding that the party has yet to make a decision.

It's still premature for PAS to lead the state as people lack confidence in the party, the source said, adding that part of the reason was that PAS strongly advocates hudud.

"But if snap polls are called, PAS would be the cause of the worst-case scenario," the source criticised.
