The "convention" war has escalated with Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua accusing outgoing menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim of "talking rubbish".

He also confirmed that Pakatan Rakyat parties submitted only Khalid's name for the menteri besar's post to the palace after the 2008 and 2013 general elections.

"There was never more than one name sent to the palace for the position of MB.

"In fact, Khalid's office drafted the letter to the palace to nominate himself for us," he added in a text message to Malaysiakini .

"We agreed to nominate him. So we just asked for the letter format from him," he said.

 

Pua ( right ), however, wasn't sure about the other two parties.

 

"I don't know about the rest, I would assume the format is the same since we were nominating only him," he said.

 

It was understood that MB's press secretary Arfa'eza Abdul Aziz had sent a draft of the nomination letter dated May 9, 2013, a day before the deadline set by the ruler, for DAP to sign.

 

"Pakatan leadership has is in consensus to nominate only one name, i.e. Khalid, to continue as MB for his second term," the DAP letter stated, adding that Khalid ought to stay on for his excellence in administration.

Multiple options in 2008

This afternoon, Khalid dismissed PKR and DAP's argument that it would submit a single name, PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, to the palace to be the next menteri besar based on convention.

Calling this flawed, the menteri besar said that Pakatan parties had submitted more than one name, including his, to the palace in the aftermath of the two previous elections.

Later, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and his wife Wan Azizah refuted this, claiming that only Khalid’s name was submitted.

Meanwhile, responding to Pua, Khalid's close advisor and former political secretary Faekah Husin (left) said that there was definitely multiple choices presented to the palace in 2008.

"Didn't the entourages of Datuk Hasan and Khalid Samad go to the palace in 2008?" she asked on Twitter.

Faekah, who is now chief executive officer of state investment arm Menteri Besar Incorporated, was referring to former Selangor PAS commissioner Hasan Ali and Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad.
