While PAS has yet to make a decision on its Selangor Menteri Besar candidate, it reiterates it that won’t name one from within the party.

 

"PAS has yet to receive the letter from the palace, I suppose we will receive it soon.

"PAS needs to look at the contents of the letter before making any decision," PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali. told  Malaysiakini.

 

"At the moment our stand is (the MB candidate) will not be from PAS," he said when asked if someone within the party might be nominated," he added.

 

Mustafa personally opined that PAS logically should stick to the party's decision on Aug 17, which nominated both PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail ( right ) and PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, and there should be no surprise candidates.

 

He added that instead of holding another meeting to discuss candidates, PAS will only consult within the party leadership before replying to the palace.

He also told party organ Harakahdaily that PAS will respect the decree and "will send no less than two names" to the sultan.

 

PAS was seen as making a flip-flop on the MB candidate, where it first named the two in its Aug 17 meeting but later agreed to nominate only Wan Azizah at a Pakatan leadership meeting the same day.

 

On Aug 25, PAS then decided the ruler should decide who should be the MB.

 

Mustafa told Malaysiakini he believes that the Selangor crisis will be resolved after the sultan make his decision.

 

However both PKR and DAP have insisted on naming Wan Azizah as the sole MB candidate despite the palace informing Pakatan parties to offer more than two names.

 

Mustafa added that the other two parties should respect the ruler's decision even if it was against Wan Azizah.

 

"Whatever he decides, you cannot say anything else. Yes, every party should respect his choice," he said.

 

When asked about the Selangor DAP’s discussion on the need for Pakatan’s continued existence on a meeting held Aug 25, Mustafa brushed the question off.

 

"Pakatan is still intact," he responded.

Waiting for letter from sultan

Meanwhile at a press conference in Penang, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng declined to comment much about the latest developments ‎in Selangor on the MB situation.

 

He said Pakatan had already reached a consensus on the matter and has announced its decision on the MB candidate.

 

"However, in view of the latest development where the Selangor sultan is requesting two names from each party, we will wait until the three parties receive the sultan's letter before making any comment.

 

"It is not appropriate form me to say anything before we read the letter."

 

Lim confirmed that the sultan had also requested names of a few candidates after the May 5 general elections last year but Pakatan had only submitted one name, which was Khalid Ibrahim.
