Felda Settlers' Children Association (Anak), together with around 300 settlers, held a dialogue session and submitted a memorandum to the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) today.

Anak president Mazlan Aliman ( right ) said the memorandum submitted to Suhakam was regarding the alleged discrimination by the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) against settlers.

The discrimination was in relation to the replanting agreement and farm management as well as settlers being denied Hari Raya incentives and Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGVH) dividends.

Mazlan also claimed that settlers who are not with Felda were discriminated as well through the low palm oil extraction grade (KPG).

He expressed hope that with the submission of the memorandum, Suhakam will be able to defend settlers who have been discriminated.

"Suhakam has promised to conduct a roundtable discussion and will become an observer in court.

“We hope the settlers’ fate will be taken care of,” he told reporters after submitting the memorandum.

The memorandum was submitted to Suhakam commissioner James Nayagam.

Najib in July had announced the dividend payment totalling RM72.9 million by Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad (FGVH).

As such, 112,635 Felda settlers nationwide will receive a remuneration of RM647.78 each. Felda also set aside RM30.5 million as Hari Raya incentives where each family will receive RM300.

On July 24, about 50 settlers from Felda Bera and Felda Rompin lodged police reports after being denied FGVH dividends and Hari Raya aid amounting to about RM1,000 each.

Felda said that any settlers who take legal action against Felda will not receive dividends from FGVH’s trust fund as well as Hari Raya cash aid.

A spokersperson said that the decision was made to "safeguard the interests of other settlers who contributed to Felda’s development".
