The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) says in statement that it had counselled Azan Ismail against putting the PKR logo on banners at a community health screening event that was held in in Terengganu on Tuesday.
 
“The NKF Public Education Department already advised Azan that this cannot be done as it is against the NKF policy to be linked to any political party,” the foundation said in a statement sent to Malaysiakini yesterday.
 
A community health screening event held in the Terengganu state capital was halted halfway yesterday after the main sponsor, Allianz Insurance, pulled out of the event and accused Azan of politicising the event.
 
Azan, who is assemblyperson for Bandar in Terengganu, was accused of having politicised the banners of the event by including his PKR party logo in them.
 
NKF also denied claims that it approached Azan to assist with the setting up and running of the event.
 
“The National Kidney Foundation of Malaysia did not seek any form of sponsorship from the assemblyperson... he provided the tables and chairs for this event on his own accord.”
 
The only assistance that the foundation required from the assemblyperson, NKF said, was in choosing the location for the event and helping with the distribution of flyers to the local community.
 
“The NKF’s Public Education Department only asked the assemblyperson to propose the best venue to hold the event and to help distribute the flyers on the event to the community living around the area.”
