PKR Youth wing leaders in Selangor and Perlis have urged the party leadership to act swiftly in resolving the Selangor crisis so as to avoid colliding with the palace.

 

In two separate but almost identical statements, the two groups expressed concern that further delays in the appointment of a new menteri besar would further stoke public anger.

 

“We the grassroots youth leaders feel it is time for  a final decision to end this protracted political crisis...

 

“We are concerned that if the crisis is allowed to drag on, it would stir the people’s anger, who are becoming more anxious and outraged with the latest developments,” both said.

 

Party insiders have told Malaysiakini that deputy president Azmin Ali’s faction is lobbying for PKR to abide by the Selangor palace’s request for the party to submit more than two nominees for the menteri besar post.

 

This is to avert the perception that PKR is opposing the sultan, the insiders said, and more youth leaders are expected to issue statements pushing for a quick resolution in the coming days.

 

Previously, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim had insisted on nominating only one person - party president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail - despite a reprimand from the Selangor palace for doing so.

 

Meanwhile, conspicuously missing from the name list of those endorsing the statements yesterday is Selangor deputy speaker and PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

 

Instead, the most senior leaders who endorsed the separate statements are PKR Youth vice-chiefs Mohd Radzlan Jalaludin and Sangetha Jayakumar and exco member Ammar Gazali.

 

They are seen to be aligned with Azmin’s faction, whereas Nik Nazmi is with that of Wan Azizah.

 

Others endorsing the two statements are various divisional chiefs and deputy chiefs from Selangor and Perlis.

 

Should PKR abide with the Selangor sultan’s request, Azmin has the most to gain as his name will most likely be included in the list of MB candidates.
