If the cabinet fails to censure Idris Jala, it will prove to Umno members that he has greater influence on Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak compared to elected Umno ministers, said Zainuddin Maidin.

The former minister is seeing red with Idris, who was appointed minister in the Prime Minister's Department, for criticising the use of the Sedition Act against academic Azmi Shahrom.

Zainuddin asked if Najib himself would censure Idris for becoming "deviant" amid the "rise of the majority of bumiputeras opposing the repeal of the Sedition Act".

"For those who talk about amending and not abolishing the Act is nonsense.

"The name Harmony Act (which was to replace the Sedition Act) is in itself a mockery," he added.

Zainuddin, who is popularly known as Zam, also called on Umno ministers to take Idris to task during the cabinet meeting, which is held every Wednesday.

"If they do not censure him tomorrow, this will mean they themselves do not care about the voices of Umno divisions which they represent that have strongly rejected Najib’s plan (to repeal the Act).

"To date, 85 percent of the 191 Umno divisions have opposed the repeal of the Act," he noted.

Zainuddin, the former group editor-in-chief of Utusan Malaysia , wondered if Culture and Tourism Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz would take the lead.

"He (Nazri) once reprimanded me during a cabinet meeting claiming that I supported (former premier) Dr Mahathir Mohamad," he added.

Meanwhile, Zainuddin also trained his guns on the Oxford-trained Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, whom he once again described as a "WOG" or "Western Oriented Gentleman".

He said there is no need for Khairy as well as Communication and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek to continue with their campaign to defend the steps to eradicate the Act.

"People are angry, don't come to the stage where you will be booed," he added.
