PKR Alor Setar MP Gooi Hsiao Leung has lodged a police report against Selangor Umno Youth for inciting the public to intimidate him.

Gooi said in an article published in the website Selangorpress.com on Sept 29, the wing’s chief Zainuri Zainal claimed that Gooi wants to reduce the power of the sultan.

He said Zainuri had distorted his statement to make it look as though he had insulted the sultan, an allegation which he denied.

"He also threatened me by asking the Selangor people to spit on me if I did not retract my statement," Gooi told Malaysiakini , after lodging the report in Alor Setar.

The Umno youth wing had reacted strongly to Gooi's request to Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali to review the state constitution to prevent a similar crisis in the appointment of MB in future.

The Selangor ruler ( right ) had appointed Azmin to replace Khalid Ibrahim although PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had obtained support from 30 out of 56 assemblypersons in Selangor.

Gooi claimed the threat was issued to prevent him from carrying out his job as a parliamentarian to speak out on issues affecting the country.

He added that it was fine if Umno Youth had simply disagreed with his statement. 

However, he said they have "crossed the line" when they twisted his remarks and incited others to intimidate him.

He added that he lodged the report to protect his safety and to prevent any breach of peace.

"I hope police will probe the case under Chapter 22 of the Penal Code for crimes related to criminal intimidation, insult and annoyance," Gooi said.
