Sedition sweep more insidious than Ops Lalang

YOURSAY ‘With this Sedition Act, everyone and anyone can fry.’

Karpal's nephew latest Sedition Act casualty

Anonymous_1399248875: At the rate the Home Ministry is going, the police lock-ups, jails and detention centres will be overcrowded very soon. Not with thugs, criminals, murderers and illegals but with normal Malaysian citizens.

PM Najib Abdul Razak can go on talking till the cows come home about human rights and good practices in Malaysia during his working visits overseas. I'd wondered if the Americans are actually buying Najib's fairy tales.

Haveagreatday: We understand that the inspector-general of police (IGP) and the attorney-general (AG) have been instructed by their Umno political masters to act. So we can expect the current spate of Sedition Act arrests to continue.

But former Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan has given us a rallying cry, ‘We are not lallang, we shall not be cowed!’

Anonymous #19098644: More and more, the Umno regime is misusing the outdated colonial legislation to suppress the rakyat. More and more, the rakyat are becoming aware of this regime's oppression and are increasingly incensed by them.

This is the positive aspects of the misuse of the Sedition Act, it will eventually be the catalyst for the downfall of a corrupt and decadent political party. Arrest more Malaysians, charge more Malaysians and their doom is definitely assured.

Single Malt: What happens if a few thousand citizens voice their opinions, will there be enough space in the police lock-ups?

I think the government should not be selective in arresting people for sedition. There are many pro-government individuals and NGOs who have uttered worse things and they are not touched by the police. Such indifference will only provoke others to challenge the government.

Cukup Lah: Another sad morning in Malaysia. Maybe this is the sign of change to come to the country, for good, I hope.

Fair&Just: What? Cannot complain about the misuse and misinterpretation of the constitution? Very powerful, almighty and arrogant indeed for all the guns and weapons are with the bullies.

Yes, after decades of bullying, intimidation, oppression, etc, etc, all those egoistic vibes have engineered into the genes of those bigoted bullies. Soon there shall be retribution and punishment from the forces of nature, karma and even God Himself.

Senior: What is seditious cannot be left to the opinion of only the men in blue or the AG. Have proper definitions for all so the rakyat know what can be said or cannot be said.

Anonymous_3faa: It's easy work for PDRM to arrest peaceful citizens under the Sedition Act. The police don't need to do the hard stuff of catching real criminals. They are earning their keep, pleasing their masters.

Kangkung: Is Umno is having an orgy of charging people under the Sedition Act? The level of political persecution by the Umno government and abuse of the Sedition Act are unprecedented.

Jehangir: The current crackdown is more insidious that the tactic of one fell swoop, such as Ops Lalang. The only way to ultimately stop this repression is to bring down the BN regime in the next general election.

In the meantime, citizens should try some form of civil disobedience.

Ourvotesdecide: Explain and expose the tyranny of the government to the ordinary people at the grassroots level. There must be systematic and well-coordinated campaigns for political change in GE14.

It cannot be left to the intellectuals, students, NGOs, civil society groups and politicians alone to fight for change. The ordinary people must be involved.

Keep warning people of the usual money politics which PM Najib Razak, Umno and the BN will use to bribe voters during the elections like BR1M (Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia), e-Kasih, 1Malaysia this and that funds.

Apart from using race and religion, Umno’s and BN’s trump card is bribing voters with money provided by their cronies and from taxpayers’ money.

Analyse the BN strategies and their tools well and study the mentality of voters, then devise our strategies to overcome all that.

Anonymous_40f4: They still haven’t discovered who leaked the four UPSR examination papers, or is it going to be another round of Bolehland cover-ups?

Automated teller machines (ATMs) at banks have been robbed of millions of ringgit by foreigners, but the police seem to be busy trying to charge people under the Sedition Act.

Drngsc: This is getting ridiculous. No one is safe anymore. With this Sedition Act, everyone and anyone can fry. We must repeal this Act.

Doc: It looks like PDRM and Umno just launched law student Dalbinder Singh Gills' political career. Indeed, it’s seditious to be related to the late Karpal Singh these days.
