Azmin’s first task - find missing water deal papers

YOURSAY 'If the water agreement is transparent, why the need to hide it under OSA?'

S'gor to ask Putrajaya to bare water agreement

Limfly: The former menteri besar signed the water deal, and yet the state government does not have a copy of the agreement? Is Selangor MB Azmin Ali pulling a fast one on the rakyat?

If former MB Abdul Khalid Ibrahim did not keep a copy, then he and the BN government are clearly pulling a fast one on us.

So, Azmin, go get a copy and tell the rakyat what can be told to us, and at the same time, get the agreement declassified so that it’s no longer under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

Nes: It defies logic! A party to the agreement does not have a copy of the contract?

4W4K3N1N6: If the water agreement is not available to the new MB, how does Putrajaya expect the state government to fulfil its part of the agreement when it doesn't know what its obligations are and what the obligations of Putrajaya and the water concessionaires are?

Victor Johan: Demand a copy of the agreement which was signed by the former Selangor menteri besar with the federal government.

The agreement should at all times be kept with the state government and the present MB and his exco should be privy to the information it contains. This is especially true when one of the signatories was at that time a caretaker MB.

It's a state affair, and the rakyat will be paying for the deal. So, how can the agreement be classified as OSA?

Rick Teo: What a ridiculous situation. If the water agreement is transparent, why the need to hide it under OSA? It should be made public so that the people can judge for themselves.

It appears that Khalid Ibrahim alone knows the contents of the agreement and the new MB is in the dark. How absurd.

Dr PM : How can an agreement be made and one party to it doesn't have access to the contents?

Anon1: If a document/contract is top secret and covered under OSA, wouldn't it be non-binding on Selangor?

How do you enforce or give effect to a contract which can't even be seen and terms which are not to be read? That's insanely absurd.

Anonymous_1398011840: The water agreement is not between the government and Khalid, but with the people of Selangor.

The people have the right to know the content, or at least the new MB must know what the previous MB had signed before he left office.

Terjah: From the photographs of the ceremony published in the media, it showed each party having a copy of the signed agreement. Normally everyone keeps a copy for safekeeping and future reference.

Doesn't this sound weird, when the state government is a party to this agreement and doesn't have a copy of the agreement? Khalid's true colours are slowly being exposed.

Jefflim118: Why should the agreement be under the OSA when the people of Selangor are paying for it? No wonder we are at the top of the list of the most corrupt countries when everything can easily be covered up using the OSA.

I think the government should review the kind of circumstances where it is allowed to classify documents under OSA.

Whenever it involves the rakyat's monies, the rakyat has the absolute right to know where and how the monies are spent.

Pputeh: Khalid, if this agreement is for the benefit of the people why is it under OSA? We are no fools. Some crony is laughing all the way to the bank. The 47 percent who voted these fools are the culprits.

The Mask: For those hard nuts (especially PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang) who still maintain that Khalid Ibrahim has done no wrong, why is this issue of the water agreement under OSA when Pakatan's manifesto is to implement freedom of information?

Khalid has in fact gone against Pakatan's manifesto, and yet he has done no wrong? And we have leaders who can't see the facts in front of them.

Kangkung 1M: Hadi, is this what you meant that Khalid had done no wrong - have you been sleeping?

This is the reason why the late DAP chairperson Karpal Singh was so much against PAS. Leaders like Hadi and his gang can't be trusted.

Concerned1: Good move, Azmin. Those idiotic ulama who insist that the previous MB has done nothing wrong, let them explain to the people why an agreement, where the taxpayers have to bear, should be under the OSA.

Fairnsquare: A government for the people and by the people cannot hold secrets from the people. That is democracy. The people are becoming ‘demo crazy’ because of all the secrecy.
