Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) Johor wants Ampang Puteri Hospital, owned by Kumpulan Perubatan Johor (KPJ), to cancel plans to absorb the costs for actress Rozita Che Wan when she delivers her baby.

The sponsorship was not appropriate as Rozita, better known as Che Ta, has the financial means to meet the costs involved, SAMM Johor said yesterday.

The youth NGO's coordinator Hadzril Rizal also questioned the sponsorship which includes the delivery room costs, accommodation, subsequent treatment and free 'A Class' treatment for Rozita, as most Johoreans do not experience any privileges from the hospital.

KPJ also does not provide discounts and incentives for medical treatment for the children of Johor, especially those from the lower income families, he added.

He claimed KPJ also did not provide any aid to a child from Parit Sulong, Johor, who needed to undergo heart surgery at the National Heart Institute.

Umno blog backs hospital's decision

Meanwhile, pro-Umno blog MyKMU has defended the hospital's decision to sponsor the actress on the grounds that it is a good "investment" and will "boost its rating".

MyKMU reasoned that sponsoring RM10,000 on Rozita will bring in hundreds of thousands of ringgit in revenue to a KPJ.

"When she safely gives birth, KPJ's rating will shoot up high," the blog said today.

"KPJ already pays tax (zakat) in the millions, which is then distributed by the government to help the poor and needy."

Rozita, 41, married fellow actor Zain Saidin, 30, in December last year. She is expected to give birth in the next two weeks.

The baby will be Rozita’s first child with Zain. She has two sons, aged 18 and 16, from a previous marriage.
