UM identifies nine who took part in gathering
Universiti Malaya (UM) yesterday said nine students have been identified as suspects who had participated in the illegal gathering during a programme with PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim on Oct 27, at the Dataran Dewan Tunku Canselor.
Universiti Malaya (UM) said nine students have been identified as suspects who had participated in the illegal gathering during a programme with PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim on Oct 27, at the Dataran Dewan Tunku Canselor.
UM’s media and corporate unit head Izzad Zalman Abd Kader said among the nine students was Universiti Malaya Undergraduates’ Association (PMUM) president Fahmi Zainol.
He said UM had identified Fahmi as the organiser of the programme, based on (CCTV) recordings.
“Fahmi, who is a final year student in Social Science and History, will face the UM Disciplinary Board soon,” he told Bernama yesterday when contacted.
He added that the actual number of students involved on that day was still being investigated while CCTV recordings have been sent to other institutions as well for identification purposes.
“For students from UM, we will carry out an internal investigation,” he said.
Meanwhile, Brickfields police chief ACP Muhammad Azlee Abdullah said police were in the process of identifying those involved in the illegal rally by viewing CCTV recordings on that day.
During the incident on Oct 27, about 300 youths, believed to be students from higher learning institutions, had charged into the UM gate at 9.20pm for the ‘Pidato Anwar Ibrahim’ at Dewan Tunku Canselor.
The programme was deemed illegal by the UM and the UM security had locked the main gates.
