DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng today took a veiled jab against Pakatan Rakyat partner PAS saying that the latter’s failure to fullfill vows is a threat to the coalition.

While not naming the Islamic party, Lim said that failure to fulfil promises is a bigger threat to Pakatan compared to the possibility of Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim going to jail.

He added that it was difficult to deal with a party where its chief and lieutenants cannot move in the same direction.

 

"We want to see a commitment that any agreement is achieved will be carried out.

 

"Don't make a decision today and the next day it is overruled by the president.

 

"If even the president can reject the central committee, we do not know how to deal with this party," Lim  (left) was quoted as saying by KiniTV at the Kuala Lumpur DAP convention today.

Cakap tak serupa bikin

 

Lim, who said this was the predicament that has inflicted Pakatan at the national level, appears to be referring to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang (below) though he did not name him.

 

Abdul Hadi, who has not attended Pakatan leadership council meetings for several months after a falling out with Anwar, has repeatedly overruled the PAS central committee.

 

This has rendered moot the PAS central committee decisions, achieved in consensus with partners PKR and DAP at the Pakatan leadership council meetings.

 

Lim said the life and death on Pakatan does not hinge on Anwar but on whether all three component parties can hold on to their promises and commitment.

 

"If there is a party in Pakatan that cannot fulfil its commitment or promise, then regardless whether Anwar is around or not, it would make no difference.

 

"What is the point if Anwar remains free and stays with us if there is a component party in Pakatan that cannot walk the talk ( cakap tak serupa bikin ), cannot fulfil its promises and cannot hold on to its commitment?" said Lim.

DAP prepared to break away

 

Lim said if this matter was not resolved, the DAP was prepared to go it alone.

 

"If this is not resolved, let me be frank because DAP struggles on principle which we have fought for since 1966, we are not afraid to struggle alone for our principles," he said.

 

Lim said even though Pakatan's survival is not contingent on Anwar's freedom, DAP would still fight for him as he was being victimised.

 

He added that Anwar, too, would agree that Pakatan's survival will require all component parties to hold on to their word.

 

After the speech, Lim was hounded by journalists to confirm whether he was referring to PAS and its president Abdul Hadi, but refused to comment.

 

Anwar (left) was on March 7 sentenced to five years in prison by the Court of Appeal for allegedly sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, a charge he maintained is politically motivated.

 

The Permatang Pauh MP's final appeal against the sentence at the Federal Court began on Tuesday and is expected to conclude next week.
