There will be a resolution to Selangor's Bible issue after the state government seeks consent from the sultan, Menteri Besar Mohd Azmin Ali said today.

Azmin said he held several meetings on the confiscated copies of the Bible with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) and the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais), from which the results had been "forthcoming".

However, Azmin was coy on what is the intended solution or when it is expected. Instead, he repeatedly gave his assurance that an announcement would be made.

After being repeatedly questioned by reporters, he said, "If you can wait for six months, can't you wait another… few more days?"

Meanwhile at an earlier function today attended mainly by councillors and other local government officials, Azmin said he wants four issues to be resolved by December: namely floods, dengue, potholed roads, and garbage collection.

He promised that he will approve sufficient allocations for the task and to spend every sen of federal government allocations for road repairs or its intended purpose.

However, he warned local government officials that he will personally be making surprise inspections to ensure that progress is being made.

"If these basic issues are not resolved, I am concerned that it would hinder Selangor’s economic development.  

"What is the use of having (cash) reserves at record levels, but our roads have potholes and the garbage is not collected?

"For the common citizen, they are not asking anything more than that from the government," he said.

Azmin was speaking at the launch of a dengue eradication campaign in Shah Alam, with the tagline "Terjah dan Musnah Aedes" (Ambush and Destroy Aedes Mosquitoes).
