PAS Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin today challenged Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Joseph Kurup to resign from the cabinet if the rest of his colleagues disagree with his call to the attorney-general to re-look at Ibrahim Ali’s "burn the Bible" threat.

Hanipa told a press conference at the Parliament lobby today that the cabinet "must be in one voice" on matters such as this and to that end, Kurup must take a "clear stand" on the matter.

He also called on the government not to use the AG’s Chambers as an “excuse” to defend its own silence on the issue.

Ibrahim, the Perkasa president, had threatened to burn copies of the Bible with the word 'Allah' in them, but the AG’s Chambers opted not to charge him in court.

Yesterday, Kurup ( right ) urged the AGC to-open the investigation into Ibrahim's statement, though he himself refused say whether the statement was seditious.

Kurup's stand was different from that of de facto Law Minister Nancy Shukri, who said the government cannot tell the AG what to do, and that Ibrahim's statement was merely "defending Islam".

Hanipa disagreed that Ibrahim's statement could be construed as "defending Islam" and also said that the government must make a "clear stand" on whether it agreed or disagreed with the Perkasa president's stand.
