Despite being yelled at, ousted and arrested, Universiti Malaya Student Union (PMUM) president Fahmi Zainol is unperturbed and will continue to tour at other universities.

"I will continue with the 'Jelajah Mahasiswa' roadshow," Fahmi told Malaysiakini today.

Fahmi and seven other student leaders were arrested last night after they were booted out and barred from holding a rally at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).

He said that police could not inform them of the Section which they were arrested under and merely told them they were interrogated "for (police) records".

"When we asked why we were interrogated, we were scolded. We were also not allowed to use our phones," he said.

As for the roadshow, Fahmi and the other student leaders will head to Universiti Utara Malaysia this Friday, to Universiti Sains Malaysia and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Penang on Saturday and Universiti Malaysia Perlis on Nov 20.

When asked whether the students will take legal action over what had transpired, Fahmi said it was not necessary.

The eight students who were arrested for allegedly causing chaos on campus were released at midnight on police bail.

They were from UM, UMS (Kota Kinabalu campus), UMS (Labuan campus) and UiTM Sabah.

Earlier, they were made to undergo urine tests after giving a public talk at the Gaya Street Sunday market, although they were not told why.

Anti-riot squad

Police anti-riot squad were also placed at the university gates last night.

The students had said that they were going to expose recordings of funds given by Umno leaders to the pro-government student groups during last campus elections.

UMS earlier issued a notice that there will be an electricity blackout due to "maintenance" work.

The same happened at Universiti Malaya when PMUM organised a talk by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim on campus on Oct 27.

UM has issued show-cause letters to eight students involved

Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA) also turned the campus lights off and locked the gate to stop a student rally at the campus in Gombak, Selangor last Friday.

UIA also barred law professor Abdul Aziz Bari, a former UIA lecturer, from entering the campus.

Abdul Aziz, UM law lecturer Aziz Bari and student leaders spoke at the UIA campus gates instead.
