PARLIAMENT Selangor BN chief Noh Omar today caused a ruckus in Parliament when he accused DAP of being a "chauvinist" party while debating the 2015 Budget.

The Tanjung Karang MP directed his remarks at Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Gelang Patah) after the Lim asked Noh to state whether he was a "moderate or an extremist."

The heated argument took place when Lim was questioning the government's move not to prosecute Perkasa chief Ibrahim Ali over the latter's Bible burning threat and Noh interjected, saying arguments must be based on law.

"Okay, just state your stand then. Are you a moderate like the prime minister, or are you an extremist?" Lim ( right ) asked.

Noh did not answer the question, but said, “I am a Malaysian citizen and member of parliament who obeys the rules, the laws, and the constitution based on the five Rukunegara.

"I'm not like DAP, which is chauvinist and racist," he said.

'I'm most moderate'

Noh added that a person should not be charged for standing up for rights protected under the Federal Constitution.

"Whoever questions the position of the constitution is a chauvinist. Don’t outlaw what is in the constitution,” he said, causing another round of ruckus in the House.

Despite demands from several Pakatan lawmakers for Noh to retract the remark, speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia saw the light side of the argument and adjourned the session for lunch.

"I’m going to have to brag. I think of all the people here, I'm most moderate," he said, and announced that the session will reconvene at 2.30pm.

Earlier, before Noh interjected, Lim was asking a rhetorical question as to whether the decision not to charge Ibrahim meant there were circumstances where it is legal to threaten to burn the Bible or scriptures of other faiths.

"Just as there should be zero tolerance for corruption, there should be zero tolerance for any threat to burn the holy books of any religion in Malaysia.

"Is Najib prepared to announce a zero tolerance policy in Malaysia for any threat to burn any holy book of any religion, so as to be a role model of moderation for other countries?" Lim asked.
