The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is shocked by a rise in the number of cases highlighted in the latest audit report which was released today, its chairperson Nur Jazlan Mohamed said today.

Nur Jazlan said that PAC had observed a reduction in cases highlighted by the report in the two previous audit reports tabled in 2013, but was taken aback by a rise in cases again in this particular report.

"We thought we can go easier now, but looks like we have to work harder," he said.

However, Nur Jazlan said, the rise in cases could be merely a matter of timing as all government agencies and statutory bodies file their financial statements towards the end of the year and thus such aspects are scrutinised by the audit report.

He also said that PAC will call in some 13 ministries and three agencies to explain about discrepancies highlighted in the report, beginning January.

Among the pertinent cases would be the 1Azam poverty eradication programme and the 1Bestarinet programme to increase Internet access in schools, which will come under the spotlight.
