Former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo today withdrew his defamation suit against DAP Sekinchan assemblyperon Ng‎ Suee Lim at the Shah Alam High Court. 

 

The suit was over Ng's ( left ) allegations made regarding Khir's Balinese mansion in Section 7, Shah Alam.

 

M Athimulan, representing Khir, informed the court of the former Selangor menteri besar's decision, with liberty to file afresh.

 

Following this Judicial Commissioner Azimah Omar struck out the suit. She made no order regarding costs.

Ng was represented by lawyer M Manoharan, who told Malaysiakini of this development.

 

Khir filed the suit against Ng in 2010, following a spat between the two in and outside the Selangor state legislative assembly.

 

Ng had alleged the home costs RM24 million which far exceeded Khir's income as MB. Khir was Selangor MB for eight years. He was not chosen to defend his Sungai Panjang seat last year.

 

Khir had also been charged and convicted by the Shah Alam High Court and sentenced to 12 months jail for graft in using his position as the state's chief executive and Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) chairperson to obtain land and property at below the market price.

The High Court also ordered that the mansion be seized by the authorities.

The Court of Appeal in May last year upheld the High Court’s decision. Khir then appealed to the Federal Court and the hearing was initially scheduled for Nov 6.

But this was taken off to hear opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy appeal, for which Khir's lawyer, Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, had been appointed prosecutor.

The new date for Khir's hearing has yet to be announced.
