Two young offenders were yesterday given seven and eight strokes of light caning respectively at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur for committing gang robberies.  

Mohamed Shaznee Jahn Mohamed Yasin, 19, a student at a skills training centre, and entertainment centre caretaker Redzohaan Abdullah, 20, were caned by a Kajang Prison officer with a light cane before Judge Ahmad Bache.  

Both, dressed in prison clothes, appeared calm when directed to bend in front of the judge’s desk.  

The caning was also witnessed by several prison officers and a medical doctor as well as members of the public in the gallery including journalists.  

On Sept 4, Mohamed Shaznee Jahn was sentenced to one and a half year’s jail from the date he was arrested on Nov 24, 2013 and seven strokes of the rotan .  

Mohamed Shaznee was meted out the punishment after he pleaded guilty to using a piece of wood to rob Teo Len Hoo, 61, of RM418 with another person still at large at Kedai Internet V-Hyper Enterprise, located at C-38&40, Plaza Usahawan Genting Klang, Setapak in Kuala Lumpur at 6.24am on Nov 24, 2013.   

Meanwhile, on Aug 21, Redzohaan was sentenced two years jail from the date he was arrested on Feb 6 and eight strokes of the cane after he pleaded guilty to robbing Martin Anak Iyan, 37, with two other persons still at large with a machete of his mobile phone, tablet and RM300 at KK Mart, 2 1/2 Mile, Jalan Ipoh in Kuala Lumpur at 3.30am on Jan 31, 2014.   

After the caning had been carried out, Judge Ahmad advised both accused not to repeat the offence and it was also to serve as a lesson to others.  

“Crime does not pay. I hope both of you are remorseful of being involved in crimes,” he said.   

The prosecution was conducted by Norazlin Mohamad Yusoff.  

Mohamed Shaznee Jahn was unrepresented while Redzohaan was represented by counsel Chong Yin Xin.
