PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim says that he would still remain as the Selangor economic adviser despite having his Datuk Seri title revoked by the sultan of Selangor.

“I will continue to serve as the Selangor economic adviser to look after the welfare of Selangor and its people.”

In a statement today, the opposition leader highlighted that the Order of Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (SSSA) award which carries the ‘Dato Sri Setia’ title was given without him requesting it.

“The SSSA was awarded to me in 1992 by the late Tuanku Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah without me making any request or application,” Anwar said.

A statement from the Selangor palace today stated that the decision was made because Anwar had questioned the integrity of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and the royal institution during the recent menteri besar crisis.

However, Anwar can still be addressed as ‘Datuk Seri’ because he has seven more awards that carry the title, according to a check on the website of the Prime Minister’s Department’s Ceremonies and International Conventions Secretariat Division.

These include awards from royal and gubernatorial palaces of Perlis (1995), Perak (1995), Pahang (1990), Penang (1994), Sabah (1994), and several others.
