Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang has taken several jibes at opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim after he was stripped of his 'datuk seri' title by the sultan of Selangor.

"If not mistaken, his wife Dr Wan Azizah (Wan Ismail) also has a 'datuk seri'... So you can still call him DSAI ... Datin Seri Anwar Ibrahim ....relax ya," he tweeted.

DSAI is an abbreviation for 'datuk seri Anwar Ibrahim' and is commonly used by his party and supporters.

In an earlier tweet, Tan told Anwar not to be perturbed as he still has the "God sent" title bestowed by his wife.

He was referring to Wan Azizah's speech at the PKR congress several years ago.

"If he was an ordinary human being like us, he would have long retreated and drowned amid challenges and turbulence," the PKR president had said.

The Gerakan leader also questioned why the opposition leader did not reveal that his title had been revoked, effective Nov 3.

'Anwar's job to question'

Meanwhile, former law minister Zaid Ibrahim showed solidarity for Anwar by stating it was not right for the Sultan to revoke his title.

“It’s not proper for Malay rulers to revoke or withdraw titles once conferred. Anwar Ibrahim is a leader. It’s his job to question,” he tweeted today.

Zaid ( right ) stated if leaders are “beyond question”, the Malays would be weak and in trouble.

“If political, religious and hereditary leaders are beyond question, then Malays will forever remain weak and poor, except their leaders.

“If Malays believe that some of their leaders are beyond question, then they are really in trouble,” Zaid said on Twitter.

Later, Zaid rapped Tan's knuckles for being "stupid".

"Gerakan Youth should not make fun of Anwar and his family. You can criticise his policies but being funny and stupid will not bring (in the) votes," Zaid posted.

The Selangor palace had announced today that it is revoking the honorific title because Anwar had questioned the integrity of the ruler.
