PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has told suspended party member Badrul Hisham Shaharin to end his complaints and let Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali perform his duties as state administrator.

Anwar said this when asked to comment on Badrul's claim that during the menteri besar crisis, five Selangor state assemblypersons had retracted their support for PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail a few days before Azmin was appointed as menteri besar.

"If there are complaints, one can refer them to the party's disciplinary committee," Anwar said at a press conference today.

"He (Badrul, better known as Chegubard, right ) has a right to complain, but I believe that for this case, he should give way for Azmin to do his job as MB)."

Anwar added that Azmin's relationship with the party leadership was different compared to the previous administration, when Abdul Khalid Ibrahim was menteri besar.

"Previously, we were in the dark on matters such as the water deal. But now, Azmin will inform us about the progress.

"So give way for him to continue doing his job," he said.

Dons 'shamed' UM image

Meanwhile, on a separate matter, Anwar said Universiti Malaya's administration had "shamed" the university's image over their decision to suspend and fine student leaders who were involved in organising a campus talk in which he was a key speaker.

"It's unfortunate that senior professors could succumb to that pressure and compromise the whole idea of a university, which is to give students space to express themselves and to engage in a reasoned debate.

"Not only are you denying them, but you are also punishing them.

"I condemn in the strongest terms not only the Education Ministry, but the university as well, because it can be used by the powers that be," he said.

Eight UM students, popularly known as UM8, faced a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday during which only one was found not guilty. Two students, including former student union president Fahmi Zainol, were suspended, four fined and one issued a warning.
