Just one day after his return from a working trip to Peru, MIC president G Palanivel continues to face mounting pressure as a group of MIC members urged for his resignation at the MIC headquarters today.

A group of about 200 gathered at the premises' Netaji Hall this afternoon carrying banners asking Palanivel to resign.

Among the banners read, "DSGP (Palanivel) Letak jawatan demi kelemahan pentadbiran sendiri " (Palanivel, please resign due to your own weak leadership).

Yesterday, Palanivel was greeted by a group of his own supporters at KLIA as he arrived from his flight.

During his absence, he had been criticised by several quarters for failing to handle the Registrar of Societies' (ROS) probe into the party elections last year, resulting in a re-election order being issued while he was away.

Umno-owned daily Utusan Malaysia even ran an editorial last week asking him to either buck up or resign.

The group includes members of the movement Gerakan Anti-Palanivel (GaP), which was formed in 2012 to protest against him contesting in the Cameron Highlands parliamentary constituency.

The movement was started by former Taman Mujur MIC branch chairperson VT Rajan.

Palanivel had also come under severe criticism for his performance as Cameron Highlands MP since winning the seat by a slim majority in the 2013 elections.

Under his tenure, Cameron had suffered two disasters involving fatalities, one in 2013 and another one recently.
