DAP: ROS should order MIC reelection for all posts
A party re-election, once ordered, should involve all posts and not just select posts, DAP said today following the Registrar of Societies (ROS) order for MIC to hold re-elections.
A party re-election, once ordered, should involve all posts and not just select posts, DAP said today, following the Registrar of Societies (ROS) order for MIC to hold re-elections.
ROS spared the top two posts in the party in their re-election order to the BN component, but DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke said a re-election must involve nominations and also voting.
"Let's see how ROS handles this (MIC election issue)," he said today.
Earlier DAP was also ordered to conduct a re-election over a single tabulation error, but despite completing it, ROS has, until today, not settled the matter with the opposition party .
ROS had refused to recognise DAP's re-elected party leadership, prompting the party to take ROS to court.
Despite reaching a legal settlement over the matter, DAP's new branches have yet to be approved 15 months after the re-election took place.
"Let's see if the appeal by MIC (president G Palanivel to ROS) will be accepted," Loke said.
DAP was never given the option to appeal the ROS ruling and had to comply with the order of re-elections.
ROS had probed MIC for a year before issuing the re-election directive.
"For us in DAP, ROS is still very weak in its management and administration. They should be more transparent," he said.
