PAS has called on Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to state his stand on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue.

Party information chief Mahfuz Omar said today Muhyiddin should not keep quiet with the aim of using it as a tool to oust Najib and take over the top post.

Mahfuz ( left ) demanded an explanation from Muhyiddin as to why he and the cabinet initially agreed to the implementation of the controversial state investment arm when the country already has Khazanah Nasional.

"Muhyiddin needs to give us his stance on the matter.

"He cannot simply leave the issue be, allowing it to become a tool to pressure Najib to resign as prime minister," Mahfuz told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.

Mahfuz, who is also Pokok Sena MP, also referred to the police report  made by Batu Kawan Umno vice-chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan against the debt ridden wealth fund last Friday, to which Umno secretary general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had urged Khairuddin to retract .

Tengku Adnan had asked Khairuddin to not be influenced by the opposition party on their complaints towards 1MDB.

Speculation ignited

Khairuddin's report, which cited a barrage of issues that needed probing, had ignited speculation that the move may have been orchestrated within Umno to boot out Najib.

“When Tengku Adnan ( left ) asked Khairuddin to retract the report, it seems as though Umno is trying to cover up the issue with 1MDB from becoming a major topic of discussion within Umno itself.

“If not why would the party's secretary-general personally ask a division deputy chief to withdraw the report.

“So, that is why Muhyiddin needs to state his stand on this issue as he is also Umno's deputy president,” Mahfuz said.

Meanwhile, Mahfuz asserted that Najib should not take any more holidays.

“This is a crisis that is plaguing our nation at this moment. It is not sensible for a prime minister to leave the country in such a state, where no one but him can make decisions on the matter.

"Unless of course, Najib had given Muhyiddin the mandate to make decisions on his behalf,” said Mahfuz.

“But what is more important is that Najib comes back to Malaysia, as soon as possible and find solutions to the problems the nation are facing now,” he contended.
