Five BFM radio presenters were called in for questioning today after a several Muslim NGOs lodged a police report against them last week.

BFM spokesperson Meera Sivasothy told Malaysiakini that all five named in the police report gave their statements at the Dang Wangi police station this morning.

She declined to elaborate on the questions asked to the presenters, other than to say that it was in relation to the police report.

The five presenters named in the report are Sharaad Kuttan, Umapagan Ampikaipakan, Ezra Zaid, Patrick Teoh and Caroline Oh.

The station’s lawyer accompanied the five presenters.

In a statement last week, BFM clarified that the police report lodged was not related to the business radio's interview with prominent Islamic scholar Reza Aslan.

It said that the police report was on the programming on Dec 12, 2014

The Muslim NGOs had demanded that the presenters be investigated under the Sedition Act as their programme touched on topics sensitive to the Muslim community in Malaysia.

Among the groups who made the police report include Persatuan Pengguna Islam Malaysia (PPIM), Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) and Persatuan Kebajikan Islam dan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Pekida).

BFM was last week fined by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for airing a radio interview with Reza without the MCMC’s prior consent.
