'Want equality? Ask Pakatan to end Allah ban'
Gerard Lourdesamy: Culture and Tourism Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz, stop playing politics with the constitutional rights of Christians.
Selangor MB Azmin Ali cannot move any amendment to the controversial Islamic enactment without the support of the sultan and the state religious council. The latter will never give their consent for obvious reasons.
The constitutionality of any such amendment will be called into question if the state government goes ahead and tables the bill for the simple reason that the sultan as head of Islam has absolute powers when it comes to Islamic affairs under the state constitution and he will never assent to the bill.
This will cause a crisis between the palace and the state government which is what Umno wants in order to stir up the Muslims/Malays.
Only the Christian churches can bring an action against the state government to challenge the constitutionality of the existing law under Article 4 (4) of the federal constitution by direct reference to the Federal Court for determination under Articles 3 and 11.
Aries46: I thought Nazri was one of the more balanced leaders in Umno but surprisingly he wants to have the cake and eat it as well.
The Islamic enactment was passed by Umno to find favour with the Malays and to undermine PAS. Now he is challenging the Pakatan Rakyat government in Selangor to amend the enactment though the damage was done by his party.
This is a clear attempt to instigate Pakatan supporters as well as to pit the Pakatan government against the state head of Islam - the sultan. If Pakatan falls into his trap, this same man will crow that the Pakatan is anti-Malay, anti-Islam and anti-royalty.
This is the oldest Umno trick in the book and any wonder why Umno is sliding down the pole? It’s all because of its strategy of outsourcing its agenda of pitting the Malays against the non-Malays to ensure its survival.
Thinking Citizen_1403620863: It is regrettable that Umno leaders are goading the opposition leaders to start racial strife so that they can stay in power.
It is a fact that all Malaysians are brought up to respect the royalty as part of history and traditions. No one questions the power of the royalty as symbols of unity.
When certain laws were enacted to restrict another community religious beliefs, these issues must be tackled. Disagreeing to certain provisions of state laws does nor necessary tantamount to not being loyal.
To suggest that the laws to be forcefully amended would mean to cause disharmony and disrespect to the sultan. We believe the sultan is wise and with proper dialogue and discussionm I'm sure some form of compromise can be reached.
It is not the sultan who is causing the problem, but rather the enforcers who take interpretation into their own hands that is causing the problem. Guess who is behind them?
Proarte: The Selangor state enactments are null and void as they conflict with the federal constitution. The Selangor sultan, Jakim, Jais and Mais have no jurisdiction over Christian matters.
They acted in bad faith and illegally confiscated the bibles. The bibles were then returned without good grace and a certain number of bibles were desecrated by having unconstituional restrictive wordings chopped on it.
The sultan was advised badly throughout this episode. If the sultan or his advisors do not use the Quran as their reference then he has no claim to be the 'defender of Islam'.
Let the Quran have the final word: Al-Ankabut "And argue not with the People of the Scripture... our Allah and your Allah is One, and unto Him we surrender."
Tupaibesi: Agreed! There is no equality under Umno. Well, we cannot hope for Pakatan in Selangor or Penang to erase the inequalities created by Umno as they do not have the political weight to do so.
Nazri, you will just have to wait until next GE for Pakatan minus PAS reach Putrajaya.
Basically: Since MCA and Gerakan are so keen for Selangor to amend the enactment, why don't they ask the Selangor Umno Adun (state representatives) to propose it?
They are after all partners in BN, Go on, tell Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar and gang to propose the amendment and I am sure Azmin and gang will not oppose it.
Oh Ya?: This is reverse racial and religion bigotry. Nazri is starting a new battlefront aimed at embarrassing the opposition and dissidents who are Muslims. But his objective is the same as Perkasa's and Isma's.
Jesse: The economy, the ringgit and 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad) are sinking rapidly, and all they continue to do is harp on Islam and the Malay race as if that will solve all our problems.
If they spend a bit more time and effort into looking after our core national affairs, they might just be able to salvage the current economic plight of the nation.
Combating corruption and good governance seem a distant second to race and religion. No wonder, the country is descending rapidly into the ranks of failed nations.
We might have to add another zero to the ringgit soon. Just ask former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's good friend in Zimbabwe.
The poison chalice left behind by BN
