YOURSAY ‘Exploitation during a desperate situation is a bigger sin than murder.’
'Rice bags with my face not reason for aid delay'
Disgusted: How low can BN politicians go to exploit a disaster situation? This is truly a Third World mentality.
Even if Machang MP Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub says they were leftovers from GE13, why was rice distributed during the elections? Isn't it considered as bribing voters for their votes? Why did the Election Commission not take action, or is it closing one eye to BN's misdemeanors?
Another factor is that the rice could have expired past its shelf-life if it has been kept so long in storage. How safe is it for consumption?
This is the type of help that BN gives to the rakyat. It keeps the best for itself and gives trash to the poor rakyat who trusted and voted for the BN.
Serves them right for giving their votes in return for a bag of rice. Now, when in dire need, they only get ‘stale’ rice.
Gggg: First, that rice is already more than 18 months old and has passed its shelf-life. It may not even be fit for human consumption. I hope you, Ahmad Jazlan, are not in breach of the many, but non-enforced, health or food regulations in this country.
Second, how can you be so sure of becoming the Machang MP before the election ? The bag clearly stated “member of parliament”, not a candidate. Please answer.
SimonTi: Despite overwhelming evidence of the stamped "Datuk Lan, MP of Machang” and the clearly unbalanced BN dacing on the rice bags, it is typical of these leaders to deny, deny, deny and shamelessly go on the offensive to defend their lies.
It’s simply despicable how these politicians are trying to buy gratitude and benefit from the sufferings of the poor kampung folk.
These same leaders blatantly - in full public glare and with the help of the mainstream media (such as TV3, RTM and Utusan Malaysia ) - commit their revolting acts in every election.
They give out bags of rice, hampers, ‘changkul’ or bicycles in the villages with their "I help you, you help me" style, bribing the poor kampung folk for their votes with impunity.
Caesar: Ahmad Jazlan, this means these rice bags are old stock, and yet you are now distributing it because of the flood. Were you keeping them to be distributed for the next general election?
Surely, you must have cleared all the balance stocks after the election, during Hari Raya and wedding ‘kenduri’?
Liew Lean Kut: Politicians will take every opportunity to spread political propaganda, and this is an ideal situation.
Maybe this is the reason why several DAP politicians had been chased out of the kampung by the village chief; maybe they want to monopolise the relief work so that they can get all the credit.
Hplooi: This BN lowlife really has no scruples. He doesn't understand the irony of this. If bags of rice with his name (and his party’s name) are printed - and he has admitted to distributing them during the last general election - then he has contravened the Election Offences Act (Act 5), Section 8 (treating) and/or Section 10 (bribery).
And to nail it further, if the bags have BN and his name printed on it, we certainly hope he can prove that these are paid from his own pocket and not from government expenses. Otherwise, it is an abuse of government funds.
He probably doesn't understand irony, or even morals.
Equatorial Man: If the rice was bought using his own money, it's fine for him to use rice bags with his face printed on them.
However, if the rice comes from the taxpayers' money, then the use of such rice bags is questionable, especially if it causes a delay in distributing badly needed aid.
The sad state of politics worldwide is this: there are few politicians who do not want to take every opportunity to promote themselves.
Anonymous_4056: Come on, you people do not understand. Even in a situation of calamity, we want you to know that whatever kindness or substance you get, it is from Umno.
All the machineries mobilised to help and rescue you is by courtesy of Umno, even those belonging to the government. Always remember that Umno is the government, and the government is Umno.
Capo: Maybe other BN leaders are busy stamping their faces on food items, too. Exploitation during a desperate situation is a bigger sin than murder.
Kilgore: My my, it would be a terrible coincidence if the desperate and tragedy-stricken people associated your face with their salvation, wouldn't it?
Bumiputhran: I have a few pigeons that come and perch on my window beam every day. My daughter set up a table and started feeding them with bird seeds twice a day.
The pigeons have become dependent on us for their daily feed and they have become human-friendly as a result.
I wish I can also distribute rice to kampung people so that they can become dependent on me.
