Radio silence from MIC president G Palanivel has forced two MIC leaders to take matters into their own hands and meet the Registrar of Societies to halt deregistration.

MIC deputy president Dr S Subramaniam and vice president M Saravanan will do so after unsuccessfully trying to contact Palanivel to discuss ROS instructions for party re-election.

"RoS has issued a letter stating that two MIC branches would be deregistered tomorrow and more divisions were at stake if the problem was left unattended.

"I have been trying to contact him for the past 15 days to seek clarification, but to no avail, as he refuses to answer my calls or reply messages," The Star Online reported Saravanan as saying in Kulaijaya today.

Saravanan (right) said that no action could eventually see the entire party deregistered by March.

On Dec 5, the ROS nullified the elections for the three vice-presidents and 23 central working committee (CWC) posts and proposed fresh polls.

The ROS said there were nullified polls had breached MIC’s constitution and the Societies Act.

Separately, 12 MIC divisions in Kedah urged Palanivel to solve the crisis by sticking to the decision made at the Dec 18 meeting, Bernama reported.

At the Dec 18 meeting, Palanivel had said that he would deal with the matter as best as possible and form a special committe made up of himself and Dr Subramaniam, the five members who lodged complaints about irregularities in the party polls and five others, in trying to resolve it.

Earlier today, G Ramanan, who was ousted from the CWC yesterday accused Palanivel of dragging his feet on the matter to trigger deregistration.

Ramanan, who was once seen as a Palanivel ally, suspects that Palanivel’s agenda is to then set up a new party with only those who support him.

Palanivel announced a leadership reshuffle in a statement yesterday, which among others saw the ousting of S Vell Paari as MIC strategic director.

Vell Paari is the son of long-serving former MIC president S Samy Vellu, who had handpicked Palanivel as his successor.

Palanivel also removed A Prakash Rao as secretary-general, KS Nijhar and KS Balakrishnan as CWC members and appointed a new chairperson and members to the disciplinary committee.

"All the appointments take effect from today and I have issued letters to all concerned, which will be received by them in due course," Palanivel said.
