MIC Youth has objected to the appointment of G Kumar Aaman as the party's new secretary-general and want party president G Palanivel to review his past "record" and "baggage".

"The president accused MIC Youth of practicing gangsterism during the MIC emergency meet recently.

"I urge the president to look at Kumar Aaman's past record," MIC Youth chief C Sivaraajh said during a press conference today.

However he did not elaborate further.

Kumar Aaman was one of the main movers of the Gerakan Anti Samy Vellu (GAS) movement, and was rewarded by Palanivel by being appointed as secretary general yesterday in a sudden reshuffle, replacing A Prakash Rao.

"There is plenty of baggage (with him). There are even police reports.

"I have nothing personal against him, but I believe this party's image is in jeopardy with this appointment," he said.

He also said Kumar Aaman's allegedly questionable background jeopardises attempts to lure more professionals into the MIC fold.

Deregistration a real possibility

Meanwhile, Sivaraajh also called on party leaders to take the Registrar of Societies (ROS) directive seriously, agreeing that the party faces de-registration anytime after tomorrow if the matter drags on.

"I call on the deputy president and the vice president to speak up on this matter and take leadership," he said.

He said that if MIC is de-registered, he does not see a comeback for the party as it will be effectively "gone forever".

"The president promised that a committee will be formed over this ROS issue," he said.

"But until now no committee has been formed. I am deeply dissatisfied with this matter," he added.

To top it off, Sivaraajh said, Palanivel had not met the party's youth wing even once since Sivaraajh took over more than a year ago.

"Ever since I became the youth chief, he has not met us despite numerous requests. I must have sent him about 30 messages requesting to meet but it has not happened until today. The wing has not met him in over a year," he added.
