Hong Kong movie star Jackie Chan may have hoarded all the attention for being on the datukship list announced on Sunday, but another recipient on the roll may escape notice.

Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club member Quay Chin Teik was among the other recipients of the Panglima Mahkota Wilayah (PMW) award that carries the title 'datuk', reported Bernama yesterday.

Quay will be best remembered as the husband of notorious former Jelapang assemblyperson Hee Yit Foong, whose defection from DAP in February 2009 along with two other defectors, triggered the controversial BN takeover of the state government.

While little else is publicly available in the English news on Quay apart from his Darjah Ahli Mahkota Perak award in conjunction with the 84th birthday of the Perak sultan in 2012, most Malaysians particularly Perakians will remember Hee for pledging allegiance to BN less than a year after Pakatan Rakyat won the state for the first time in history in the milestone 2008 general election.

Hee herself received a datukship in 2010 courtesy of the Perak sultan, and an appointment as state deputy speaker for her act of allegiance to BN.

However, her political career may have effectively ended in the 2013 general election when BN did not give her the Jelapang seat to contest.

Quay received his award in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with Federal Territory Day and was later formalised in the presence of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah at the Istana Negara.

Meanwhile actor Chan's datukship raised eyebrows, prompting Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Mansor to ride to his defence on Twitter citing the shooting of the movie Police Story in the capital city in 2011.

The ruckus over Datuk Jackie Chan eclipsed yet another award, that of the Darjah Seri Utama Mahkota Wilayah (SUMW) carrying the title 'datuk seri utama' handed to Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail, who headed the day's list of recipients.
