Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar has warned the public against raising the issue of motive in the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu.

"The highest court has made a decision, so there is nothing more to say.

"And I am warning those who wish to comment further because there may be contempt (of court)," he told journalists in Putrajaya today.

He was asked to respond to Corporal Sirul Azhar's legal team's complaint that the Federal Court, which sentenced Sirul to death for Altantuya's murder, did not look into motive.

The Federal Court on Jan 13 had restored a High Court decision sentencing Sirul and Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri to death.

Sirul fled to Australia before the decision, where Malaysia is facing obstacles getting him back due to the former's law preventing extradition of persons facing the death sentence.

He served as bodyguard to then deputy prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and was arrested in 2006.

During the trial, Sirul had claimed that he was being made a scapegoat.

Earlier, Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who was also present declined to comment about Sirul and instead asked journalists to direct the question to Khalid.

Zahid, who was officiating the launch of the police's football team for 2015, brought along his two grandchildren whom he said were fans of the police's football club and were clad in its jerseys.

Weighing into the MIC leadership crisis later, Zahid commended MIC president G Palanivel for agreeing to hold fresh party polls.

"Palanivel's suggestion to hold a fresh election should be accepted by all quarters and hopefully after this, MIC will function as one team and recognise the new leadership that wins in a clean election," he told journalists.
